What I Learned Today…

They say that the key to staying young is to learn something new every day.  Well, today I learned NOT to walk on a treadmill barefoot.  Really, even if it’s only for 30 minutes.  Even if it’s just so you can feel good about yourself for working out while on vacation.  But in particular, don’t walk on a treadmill while it’s inclined, while barefoot.

Don’t ask me why or how I know this to be truth.  Just listen to my sage advice.

Me, I need to go pop some blisters now…

Baby Envy? Not.

I (selfishly – see below) spent the day with a good friend and her darling son and am proud to announce that I was able to earn back my baby street cred. Turns out I really DO know my way around a baby even if I’m not a mom (take that!!) And as to be expected, the little man loved me! I got to hold him and walk to sleep. I got to feed and burp him. And I let him suck on my (clean) finger while his mama tried to suck boogers out of his nose – poor kid!

The best part…no baby envy! I guess we didn’t make an unwise choice after all. I mean, as much as I love kids (and boy howdy do I love kids!) I really, at no point thought to myself “awww…I wish I had one.” Cool, huh? And for what it’s worth, I seem to have a way with poodles as well.

Funny thing…I DO get all “awww…I wish I had one” around puppies! Go figure!

Go Me – Toot Toot!

A couple of weeks ago I showed some weird-o 4 pound gain. In one week! For those of us in WW-land, that’s just not cool. And while I wasn’t over concerned, and knew it wasn’t completely accurate – considering it was right after Christmas – I still skipped my next WI (following NYE).

So today was time to get back on the scale. And I’m proud to say, while I may not have lost any additional weight, from Christmas until now, I *did* manage to NOT GAIN!!! Yes, I maintained! And this is more than welcomed in my happy, little WW world.

So just from Thanksgiving to NYE (also known as “THE Holiday Season”) I was able to lose 5.6 pounds!!!

Not too shabby if I do say so myself!!

Mondays…eh!

I don’t know what it is about Mondays that leaves me never wanting to blog.  Maybe its because I spend the first half of the day just catching up on CC stuff and everyone else’s weekends.  Or maybe it’s because I often times get overwhelmed just looking around the house and seeing the “weekend mess” that my hubby, without fail, leaves behind.

Whatever it is, I just say Mondays, eh!

Blizzard of the Century!

I was poking around pictures of this huge snow storm that happened last week. There are some really beautiful shots out there in Flickr-land from this blizzard, but I have to say, this picture is just too beautiful.

Just look at those colors. Look at the valley all lit up. And that sky…it’s amazing what the winter, black sky pollution can turn into at sunset. Just breath taking. It almost looks like one of those Thomas Kincade paintings.

Just thought I’d share the beauty. Man pictures like this and I sure miss New Mexico.

And totally unrelated…Malibu is on fire again *sigh* Those Santa Ana winds.

Smoking in the Shower

Don’t worry, no one here is smoking in the shower, I promise.  I just needed a catchy title – or at least a title that I thought was catchy.  Last night, after I took the time to shower and get ready for dinner, we ended up at one of those law-breaking bars.  You know, the kind that let you break the law and smoke inside at your own risk.  Well needless to say, I came home reeking of smoke.  It made me actually wonder why I bothered to shower a mere 4 hours prior.  Talk about pet peeves…yeesh.

Today I woke up feeling the twinges of what seemed to be (see how that goes?) an incoming migraine.  Well, we putzed around the farmer’s market (and got some asian pears – YUM!) and then headed out to lunch.  By the time we got home, I seemed to need to pop some pills.  Richard commented that I needed to shake this by the B.B.King show tonight, so I settled down in bed.  The good part, Richard later came back to bed and it was snuggle time with me and the boys (I love that about weekends).  The bad part (or what seems like the bad part) is that it didn’t seem to work.  I can still feel the dull ache.  Eh, I’m sure I’ll survive the show.  Did I mention that I hate blues?

And now, I’m off to do a buttload of dishes.  Man, dishes and laundry, when does it ever stop?!?

Just Two Thoughts…

1)  Trader Joe’s Chicken Chile Verde is NOT boil in a bag.  I made this mistake heating this up once before.  You think I’d have learned my lesson the first time.  After trying to boil up two bags at once.  I’ll be stopping by again to pick up another package for dinner.  And NO cookies this time!!!

2) While I love, love, love Redken’s Ringlet 07 (it leaves my hair soft, and yet still curly – no crunchies at all!) it drives me nuts the way it squirts out of the pumper.  I’m tired of looking like I have cum on my stomach.  I mean, come on, this isn’t Something About Mary here – like I said, there are no crunchies!

And now, I leave you…

Damn Resolutionaries!

After having worked out like a fiend the past couple of days (no, really, it’s not a resolution of mine, per se), I decided to swim today. I head on over the gym around 4:00 PM and the place was packed! Not only was it packed, but the parking lot was a danger zone.

But really, I don’t think I’d ever seen so many people at that pool before. Luckily, through the power of positive thinking, my lane was awesome! I was able to get in a serious workout – 21 laps! Mind you, I then stopped at the mighty, Trader Joe’s and picked up those damnable peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies!

So I guess, along with my aching legs from last night’s 90 minute walk, I now also have an aching back. And thanks to those damn cookies, I now need to join the hubby for his walk later tonight (again!!)

Eh, it happen. Maybe I’ll just get a massage tomorrow to make it all better 😉

Web-Based Radio Rocks!

For the past couple of days now, I’ve been listening to this new internet station my husband found, KGRL. It’s a female owned and operated station that actually only plays female artists. While I admit I do kind of miss some of those testosterone-ladden lyrics, it’s still a good thing.

In fact, we’re in the process of contacting them (reads: waiting for me to email already) to see if we can set up some sort of CC-KGRL thing. I believe they’re local so hopefully I sit down face to face. Check them out though…they’re definately worth a listen.
