Magnolia Blossoms in Spring

Magnolia Blossoms

I just spent the entire day (while I was home, anyway) listening to my neighbors chop down their gorgeous magnolia tree. It’s kind of sad. It was a beautiful tree, taller than the house, taller than the power lines. Now, it’s nothing but a stump that I’m sure they’ll get rid of in a couple of days.

I can’t help but wonder why they’d get rid of it. It’s in their front yard so it actually offers up some much needed shade. I hope for the sake of the tree that it was sick. Or maybe those pesky gophers got to the roots. All I know is that I can’t bear to think that they did it just because. It was far too majestic for that. Especially in the wake of the recent fires; Griffith Park lost over 800 acres and let me tell you, that’s a lot of trees.

Rest in peace mighty magnolia…
