It’s Party Time! WootWoot!

Ultimate Blog Party 2008

Welcome to my party, um the Ultimate Blog Party! I wish I could do something, oh.my.god. amazing, but sadly, I’m still a little sick *sigh* So sadly, no cocktails from me. But I can offer you a tasty cuppa tea and some chocolate chip cookies if you’re so inclined. And well, party pro that I am, I won’t let something as a three week-long headcold slow me down! Just keep reading along as the days go on. My doc assures me I’ll be better in not time flat 😉

Let me tell you a little about myself…I’m one of the few non-moms participating. Well, actually, I am a mom, but to the four-legged kind of kids – my handsome tuxedo cat and my feisty little mutt. And as to be expected, both are well loved and some might even say, spoiled. I decided to participate in UBP because I thought it would be a great opportunity to find some new blogs and make some new bloggie friends.

I’m a 30-something, stay-at-home, work-from-home, wife in the greater Los Angeles area. I’m a former disk jockey and teacher (not at the same time) and I’m in the process of launching my own business (thanks to Ladies Who Launch), so I tend to talk about that. A lot. I’m an avid reader, though most of the time, I tend to forget to mention what I’m reading. We go to a lot of concerts and sometimes I get to take pictures. Other times, I get to meet the performers – though not always. I love to take pictures and up until recently, I was a regular participant in Wordless Wednesday.

Here are a couple of my favorites…

My bloggie friend Geggie is doing 2 truths and a lie, so I thought I’d copy her play along also. Below you will find 4 true facts about me and 2 lies. It’s your job to guess which is which. Please share your thoughts in the comments. And now, a little more than you ever wanted to know about me…

  1. I’m great friends with my husband’s last ex-girlfriend.
  2. I’ve done phone sex to make a quick buck.
  3. I actually know some people that can take care of that for you (she says in euphemisms).
  4. I’ve partied with Bruce Springsteen.
  5. My husband I have invested in my best friend’s haunted, ghostie business.
  6. I’ve had a couple of my amateur photos published.

So now I just need to find that Mr. Linky thing-a-ma-gig so I can get this show officially on the road. Keep reading along, I promise, I’m a cool chick.

I look forward to meeting all of you!!

ETA: Please feel free to stick around a while – I even have two good reasons to try and entice you…1) I’ll be posting the answers to my Two Truths & a Lie from above and 2) this blog really isn’t all that old and it wouldn’t take you all that long to poke around – maybe check out my Welcome! Welcome! for some more insight into this theory.

UPDATE: You can find the answers to my 2 truths and a lie over here.  I’ll come back later today and check and see if anyone guessed correctly.  Now,  I must run…

Did someone mention prizes??? It was hard to choose my favorites, but these seems super useful to me.

I also think these are all fun-sounding as well: 20, 21, 36, 39, 41, 60, 67, 70, 91 – so difficult to chose.

Let’s Party – Ultimate Blog Party Style

Ultimate Blog Party 2008

I’m planning on participating in the Ultimate Blog Party. I’m not a mom, but I can and do read quite a few mom blogs. Hopefully, there will be some other non-moms participating. I figure it’s a fun way to be a part of something and meet new bloggers. Mind you, with my various biz and other blogs, I’m up to 150 blogs in my Reader, but still. I won’t let that hold me back.

Anyone want to join me in this? Much like NaBloPoMo (which went monthly, did you know??) there are prizes to be had. And this gal loves anything with a prize! It’s only for one week and basically only requires you to make ONE party post during the week of March 7-14th with a link to a Mr. Linky (still learning that part – somewhere in the first, March 7th post? Maybe? Hopefully?). The rest of the time, you blog as usual – I just have to remember not to drop the f-bombs (like I do that so often!). For all the specifics, check out the instructions rules details over at 5 Minutes for Moms.

My understanding is the that the sooner you link up to your party post, the sooner you’ll get some new visitors. And well, hey, once you post that initial party post, the hard stuff is done. After that, it’s back to blogging same as before. So won’t you join me in this mini virtual celebration?? Just click on either the banner above, or the one to the right.

About Cooking, A Blog & A Contest

I love to cook.  I love to bake.  Unfortunately, I have a teeny tiny kitchen with absolutely no counter space.  This puts a damper on my dreams of cooking and baking.  I also have a piece of shit stove and oven.  The temperatures are way off, I think the oven leaks, and it cooks horribly uneven.  Oh, and did I mention that we can’t use our stove or over from April to October because it creates too much heat and the walled AC unit doesn’t reach into the kitchen?!  Actually, it barely reaches beyond the living room where it’s walled, but that’s an entirely different story for a hot summer day.  Ahhhh, the joys of apartment living.

Needless to say, I don’t cook or bake that much.  I tend to look upon events like book club, as my excuse to finally try something fun (I’ve learned my lesson with the in-laws that they won’t try anything they don’t recognize, so that leaves out a lot of food choices!).   But that doesn’t stop me from buying and reading cookbooks (yes, I read them like a book, page by page, cover to cover).  And it doesn’t stop me from reading cooking blogs.

My dear bloggie friend Geggie, over at GeggieBlog (Hi Geg!!) not only can point you in the direction of one of the best restaurants in Phoenix (damn was it good!), but she can also point you to some damn fine cooking blogs.  The latest in her list of referrals…Megans Cookin.  Check it out, it’s a fun-looking blog that just might leave you drooling.  Don’t say I didn’t warn  you.

Megan is also having a contest right now, just in time for Easter.  And let me just say, I do believe that I am coveting those dish towels!  If you stop by to check her out and enter, be sure to let her know that LA Blogger Gal sent you.  And if I win the basket, I’ll send you my Peeps!  Deal?

And speaking of book club, it’s time to get ready to head on over the farmer’s market.  I need to pick up some berries and granola for my contribution – I already have the yogurt at home.  I really was hoping to make the granola from scratch, but damn, I was just to wiped out this week to do much of anything.   Plus the last time I tried to make it in this oven, it just didn’t work out so well.

Happy Weekend everyone!

I’m Leaving on a Jet Plane

You know, I can’t decide if I like the red eye or not.  On one hand, it’s great to fly out at night and arrive in the morning.  On the other hand, it means I only get about 4 hours of sleep (so not enough for this gal) and arrive exhausted.  In rush hour traffic.  The other thing, I feel like I spend so much time throughout the day just waiting for when it’s finally time to leave.  It does give me plenty of snuggle time with the boys though.

So the week in Herbie’s office was pretty uneventful.  I never got to talk to anyone famous (outside of Herbie, that is).  But I did take some important calls:  Elton John’s office called regarding his Oscar party, Al Gore’s office called and Quincy’s office called.  So close, yet so far.  I thought Herbie was actually going to call Al Gore while he was in my car (taking him to the garage to pick up his car), but he called back into the office to see why AG’s office called instead of calling directly.  Again, close, but no cigar.

I did get some Grammy-related swag.  I got the leftovers from the In Style party and got to play with the actual Grammy swag bag once it was delivered.   Some cool shit comes in those bags.  But some crazy ass shit comes as well.  Either way, it’s fun to play with!

And now, one final love-in with the boys and we’re off.  Oh, did I mention that the other day, while working on our bookkeeping at Johnny Rockets (don’t ask) I saw Dog, the Bounty Hunter and his skanky wife? Here he is in all his trashy glory…

It's Dog, the Bounty Hunter!

Some Folks Are Tough to Shop For

One of my husband’s oldest friends (and a close friend of mine) has her birthday this Sunday.  Luckily (for me at least, since I was totally unaware it was this weekend) she’s crazy booked with Grammy stuff.  In fact, her birthday is the day of the Grammy’s so she’s booked solid from the early morning until late at night.  This of course, leaves me plenty of time to figure out what to get her.

She makes good money and really wants for nothing.  I mean, she’s the type (like many of us, as we get older) that if she sees something and she wants it, she pretty much just gets it.  She doesn’t wait around for folks to buy her something.  This of course, makes it quite difficult to get her gifts.

Typically, I focus on the smaller, trivial, lower-priced things that I know she loves – such as her favorite Yankee candles that are discontinued, or her Coffee Bean addiction.  Sadly, she’s caught on to my ways and is now full-on stocked with  her Coffee Bean supplies and has far more candles than she knows what to do with.  Square One, what surprise to see you again.

So I’m considering getting her a wardrobe/image consultant or stylist.  Because of the industry, she’s always needing to be ready for one special event (award shows, black-tie galas, dinners with heads of state, you name it) or another.  And many times, it’s multiple events, like this weekend or when she goes to the White House or whatever.  So I’m thinking that having someone come in, look over her wardrobe, make some outfits, and maybe force influence her to wear clothes that fit instead of shopping for her size 10/12 bottoms and 3x tops (and no, she’s not busty, but she will buy tops in sizing larger than this plus-size gal will buy her tops in).

Thing is (and there’s usually a thing, isn’t there?) a service like this doesn’t come cheap.  So, I have to figure out if she’d commit to whatever she’d need to follow-up with on her end.  In other words, we could pay for the initial consultation and an additional hour or so, but that leaves everything else up to her.  Which makes me wonder, is this then a great idea for a gift, or a horrible waste of money?

*sigh*

No, I don’t expect any of you, dear readers, to know the answer to that important question – I’m merely thinking out loud.  But if anyone should have a fabulous idea for a gift, I’m all ears (and no, nothing beauty service or spa-related will work).  Man, some folks sure are tough to shop for.

Yes We Can!

We knew about this while it was still in the works (notice Herbie at the end), but I see that it’s just now starting to make the blog rounds. I’m not the most politically active gal on the block, but I do pretty much keep up on things. Seeing this video for the first time the other night, I have to say, I think it’s mighty powerful.

And yet again, Will.I.Am has done an amazing job in organizing the entertainment industry together for a cause. He’s a cool ass guy and knows how to get folks involved!

Who Doesn’t Deserve a Cupcake!

Okay, well I’m sure I can think of a few people that might not deserve a cupcake.  But dammit, I just completed one awesome interview with Liza Palmer (http://lizapalmer.com  – my links are working with me today) and lo’ and behold, there was a cupcake shop right next door.  And really, who doesn’t deserve a cupcake, right?  So mocha it was – and I washed it down with a sugar-free, non-fat caramel macchiato…yum!  What a great day so far!

Some other cool things…1) author extraordinaire, Liza gave me tons of info for reaching out to publicists.  Hopefully I can get some other author interviews lined up.  Mind you, they won’t exactly have the ease of in person, so I’ll surely have to get much better at my interviewing skills.  But I’m up for it!  So we’ll be adding that to my list of things to do this week. And 2) I’m getting some responses to my request for bloggers and experts for my site’s blog.  I just love when the universe works it’s magic!

What I learned today…

1) I’m apparently a lousy excuse for a California gal – let’s keep in mind that I’m far from being a native!

2) Not a fan of the artichoke – even when I’m promised by the waitress that theirs is the absolute best and will spoil me for all others.

3) The oh.my.god that is Sees chocolates is kind of lost on me.  I just thought it was just your basic chocolate.  But apparently, it has some sort of cult following and both Liza and our adorable waitress thought I was nuts for not knowing of it’s other worldliness.  Maybe I’ll look into that.

4) I guess I also fail in the key lime department.  I guess it causes shock waves in the atmosphere to not want key lime pie.  Who knew?  I was fine with the brownie thing though (and then of course on top of that, the mocha cupcake).

So now I need to edit the interview.  And of course, then have the hubby re-edit the interview.  I hope to have it up some time next week.  Can’t wait!

And did I mention that I have three books to read in two weeks and turn in some sort of review!!  Nothing like having a little deadline. Well, I did say that I wanted something to do during the day.  Thank you Universe!  And now, I’m off to respond to blogging requests and get started on at least one of those books.

This is the Day…

This is the day your life will surely change.
This is the day when things fall into place.

Really, honestly, truly, today is the day when my life will surely change and this is the day when things fall into place.  Yes, it’s been that good of a day.  Almost a new beginning if you will.

I finally sat down and made some awesome realizations.  Stuff that for some reason, for the past three or so weeks, I just wasn’t able to see.  And you know what?  To be short and sweet, today I was reminded of the following…everything that’s been going on lately isn’t even about me. It’s about other people reacting to their own crap based on their own past, their own actions and their own choices.

So while this whole thing still hurts more than I’m comfortable with and doesn’t make me feel any more valued or appreciated (long story) it at least helps to remind me that I need to worry about myself and not everyone else and their fucked up thoughts and actions (hello, cyber-stalking?  seriously? who does that sort of fucked up shit?!?  for fun no less.)

So all of this combined with yesterday’s great news (I can happily and comfortably step away from my site and focus on my own biz, which excites me to no end!) has made for a great beginning.  So yes, this IS the day and I can’t wait to finally fully invest in my LWL  Incubator program.

Let’s drink to that *cheers*

Is This Not the Cutest Thing You’ve Ever Seen?

I was finally able to meet up with my friend the other day.  First time I’ve seen her in a bout six or so months.  It was great to catch up over lunch.  Who knew lunch could last three hours!  You know it’s a friend when you can spend that much time together yet feel as if it’s only been a couple of minutes.

Of course the little angel never woke up until it was time to leave.  But I did get to hold her, love her, feed her and burp her before we parted ways.  Maybe next time we get together for dinner with the hubby the angel will spend a little more time smiling and giggling.
