Looking for Business Book Recommendations

I’m in the process of buying a book on Amazon, and of course, I’m $6.50 short for the free shipping.  Since this is being paid out of my biz account, I would like something else to qualify the order, but it needs to be a biz expense.

What are your favorite biz books?
I’ve already read (or own) all the Seth Godin and Michael Gerber books.

In return, I’ll share a couple of my favorite biz and biz-related books:

Any other must read suggestions?

You’ll Think of Me

Wow. That’s all I can say. Last night’s Keith Urban show at the House of Blues was great. It was crazy packed. But thanks to the small, intimate venue, the vibe was awesome. You could really tell that he was enjoying himself and enjoying the vibe.

I have to say, I never knew he was such a good guitar player. I mean, I’ve always enjoyed his songs, but I wouldn’t have considered myself a fan. I wanted tickets for his July show because Sugarland was opening and he was performing. I figured it was bound to be a good show. But now, wow. Of course, it leaves me a little sad knowing that the July show at Staples won’t be nearly as good.

Of course, I took tons of photos. And luckily, some came out to be pretty decent. Since it was dark venue, flash was totally useless so I had to shoot in my 3200 iso setting. Which means (to me, at least) that while I have some good shoot, in larger images, you can see just how grainy they are. Which is a shame. But what can I say…I’m a point and shoot girl and am totally clueless when it comes to camera settings (the hubs tells me that I really, really should learn how to use a camera already). I’ll get them posted up sometime soon – I might save them for Wordless Wednesday.

The hubs was expecting to shoot the show, but once we got there, they told him that there wasn’t any press allowed. So he just had to stand around hanging on to his camera bag. It’s okay, he chose to review the show instead 😉 He’s crazy like that.

Looks Like I Might Have Another Great Opportunity

This isn’t what I had intended to blog about today – that would have been house envy – but it’s something I wanted to share instead.  And much more positive!

I had an interview earlier today with this chap over in England.  He has this awesome website that hosts many business videos (think YouTube for Business).  He’s considering using me for a regular, weekly show. The focus will be women in business and soloprenuers and the challenges we sometimes face, along with tips and whatnot. I’m so excited.

I’ve avoided video (and full-face photos – first one was posted here on Tuesday) due to the crazies I’ve encountered in my past.  But I just don’t think I can hold off any more.  More to the point, I don’t care about it any more.  I’m a successful business woman that can be found all over the web.  There’s no need to hide from a group of people that are too bored to have something better to do with themselves.

Though to be honest…video is great for universal search engine optimization (as I tell my clients).  It’s really the wave of good business – especially if you do online business as it allows people to relate to who you are as a person.  But hey, you didn’t come here to learn about SEO now, did you?

So yes, it looks like I have this great opportunity in front of me.  I won’t know until some time next week or so.  Until then, I could use all the good vibes and happy thoughts you could send my way.  Know that it will be graciously accepted and returned to you tenfold.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now, I must finish getting ready.  Tonight I have a date with Keith Urban.  Well, my husband will be there (as will hundreds of other fans), but since he’ll be shooting the show, I plan to have Keith serenade me personally.  Hopefully I can get some decent shots of him to share with you all (or steal some of my hubs shots when he’s not looking).
Happy Friday Y’all!
It’s All About ME ME ME!!!
Not exactly. I mean it is my husband’s birthday. But I did something totally uncharacteristic today…I left him before he even got out of bed telling him that there was a bagel waiting for him. You see, I had to head out to the college to get my employment papers filed since classes start next week.
From there I thought I’d head to Target to try on an adorable dress I was eying over the weekend. I figured if it was flattering, I’d wear it to his birthday dinner tonight (see, it can still be about him – LOL) and then for teaching. It’s a little nerve wracking not being able to wear jeans (or flipflops) when that’s what we tend to live in here in LA.
Anyway, I actually picked up two dresses. The one one I was eying and a cute sundress of sorts (which of course isn’t up online yet). Again, both will work for teaching and my professional meetings or networking events. Totally worth it, right? They actually had quite a few cute dresses and I’ve been having much better luck with their stuff than with the Old Navy plus line.
I hate to say, I totally forgot that teaching at the college would also mean that I’m college faculty. Hello! How swanky does that sound? Not only does it sound swanky, but it means I get to have a faculty ID card. And while that might not get me movie discounts, it gets me TONS of other discounts – like on electronics, programs, books and whatnot. Can’t wait to get my new audio recorder at nearly half the standard rate!
Totally makes the (seemingly) minimal (3 hr/wk) salary worth it for the perks alone!
It’s Official…Call Me Teach!
I finally heard from the college (they’ve been so backed up between finals and spring semester arrangements).  I got the job. It’s official, I will be a teacher once again!  There’s a huge part of me that’s so excited to be back in a classroom – even if this time I’ll be working with adults.
I start on Tuesday and will be co-teaching advanced computer and social media skills.  Luckily, I’ll also be able to head up to San Jose for the hubby’s Bruce show next Thursday and keep my speaking gig in June.  So it all worked out in the end.  I can’t wait to get started!
Thanks for all the support and happy thoughts to bring this to fuition.  I’m sure I’ll be letting you know how it goes.
Birthday Season Begins Here in LA Blogger Gal Land
Yes, I said “Birthday Season” and yes, I capitalized.  You see, we have eight birthdays between today and the first week in May (me! yay!) and yes, that’s only the beginning.  There’s easily another 5 or more to get us through until September.
But two of the three most important men in my life have their birthdays this week…
Happy 9th Birthday Charlie Man!!! Hope the salmon was yummy.
And then toomorrow it’s my husband’s birthday. He’s not really into birthday celebrations (hello, my birthday celebrations typically last a week!) so there won’t be any swell gifts. Instead, I’ll get his car washed and then take him out to Palate Food + Wine in Glendale for dinner.
I’ve heard good things about Palate so it should be yummy. It’s one of the Patina guys setting up shop over on car row in Glendale. Not where you’d expect to see a fine dining establishment. I hear the building is an old meat packing place or something similar with some pretty funky decor.
The best part…they have an entire room just for CHEESE!!!!! Oh.My.God! Can you imagine!?!?! It’ll be heavenly! And a perfect way to start off Birthday Season. Bring it!
Which of course brings me to a question though…what do you get your hubs for his birthday or anniversary? Do you do the gift exchanges, or are you more the nice dinner or vacation type instead?
I Feel the Siren Song of the New Purse Calling to Me
Again.
And once again, I’m going to need to just ignore it.  We’re even closer to our anniversary and now it’s looking like even that could change (a possible earlier trip to Vegas instead).
I should be fine though.  I just bought this gorgeous Le Sportsac (as if you might need further proof that I’m a child of the 80’s) computer bag.  I’ll be able to use it all the time when I meet with clients.  Up until now, I was just using a neoprene sleeve and a cheesy bag I got from Ellen in the Park a couple years back.  But you know, it will be just perfect for that teaching job.  You know, once the call me to confirm that I should actually show up next Tuesday.
It’s tough though, all the cute spring bags are out.  And as insane as it is…I love me a white purse.  Come on, nothing says spring like white leather!  I mean, look how cute this one is…
I just keep telling myself that my birthday is in just 6 weeks and I can surely hold out for a cute new purse until then.  I can, right?  I mean, six weeks isn’t that long.  Is it?
It’s Official, I Miss My Husband
I made it five days and nights, but it’s been long enough.  I’m ready for my husband to be back home.  I dono’t know how you ladies with husbands that head out on regular business trips do it.  Let alone those of you with kids.  My pets are driving me crazy enough – the dog is barking non-stop, the cat wakes me up every single morning at around 7:00, crying for an hour or more until I finally give in and get up.
I’m exhausted.  I’m actually getting less sleep with him gone (thankyouverymuch CharlieCat).  I’m eating crappy food – though thankfully, not crappy fast food.  I’m not staying focused enough to actually get anything done.  Really, I’m just ready for him to be home and for a good night’s sleep.
Thankfully, he’ll be home later tonight.
But first I have my Mastermind meeting, then I’ll head over to LAX to pick him up.  I can’t wait.  And lucky me, he’s off next week, so he’s ALL mine!  Though I’m still waiting to see if I got the co-teaching job and to see if I get to hang out with him in San Jose.
Oh yeah, I also still need to figure out what to get him for his birthday on Wednesday…but he’s home today…woohoo!
My House is Just Too Quiet
quiet_loud
A couple weeks back, my favorite radio station changed format.  They went from non-sucky, non-screaming, totally hillarious talk radio and turned into yet another crappy ass, Top 40 station.  Around that time, I moved my radio from where it was in the kitchen, around to the otherside of the apartment – I figured I wouldn’t be listeming as much, so why did I need it nearby now.  So basically, without my favorite day time radio show and without my radio nearby, things have just been too damn quiet.
Now I know what you’re thinking…why can’t I just listen to music onlilne?  I could.  I guess.  Thing is, I like to have multiple tabs open on my computer.  This means I tend to suck up my computer’s whatevers.  Add to that keeping my Tweetdeck open and active and well, I tell myself that I’ll somehow manage to bog my computer down so much that it will be super slooooooow.  Yet in reality, I know that’s so not the case.
Of course, since the hubs is away this week at SXSW listening to, recording and shooting a gazillion bands, it’s even quieter still.  The only regular sound we’ve got going here is the non-stop dog barking (oh my god, he’s going to kill me if he can’t get quiet and stop barking at the neighbor’s dogs).  And well, between the silence and the non-stop barking, I think it’s becoming just too much for this poor soul to take.
Thank goodness I’ll be heading out shortly for cupcakes.  I love MeetUps and I love cupcakes.  That will give me some time away.  I’m just ready for the hubby to get back home tomorrow.
And now in honor of this very post, I’ve opened up el iTunes and I’m jamming to some ABBA.  Much better! Not so quiet now…The winner takes it all….
