Bloggers are Dying??

Bloggers are stressed?  Really?  Well, according to this latest New York Times article they sure are. On one hand, that really doesn’t surprise me.  You’d think that having he opportunity to work from home, at your own pace would be less stressful.

Then again, if you guys are anything like I am, everything I experience throughout the day I consider fodder for blogging (now some of it makes it to my tweets instead of my blog).  And don’t even get me started on all the unwritten blog posts that float around my head as I’m falling off to sleep.

Steph over at Back in Skinny Jeans recently took an online hiatus after suffering from insomnia.  I also know quite a few other bloggers that felt the pressure to blog, or the pressure to write for their audience instead of writing about what they want to write about.  I can relate though, sometimes I just dread having to write stuff or blog for my site.  But we do what we’ve got to do, right?

Okay, I’m on the Twitter – Now What?

I did an email search and added a couple of my bloggie friends (hi Siz & Geggie!!).  I also added a couple of my Ladies Who Launch gals.  I even figured out how to text in a tweet and added a sidebar widget (sweet!).

But really now what?  Do I just start searching for people that I admire or like: Seth Godin? Robert Kiyosaki? Andy Wibble? Michael Gerber?  Or do I just pimp myself out to my other bloggie friends (see below)?

I’m actually surprised at how many people have their accounts but haven’t bothered to update in months.  Is that all it is for some people, just another account that they’ve let lie fallow?  I want to network baby!  I want to have fun!  I want to be cooler than cool!

Anyone else care to cave to the peer pressure and join me?  You can find me at kat_taf.

Can Chumby Be My New Best Friend?

Is It Wrong that I Want This? Because if it is, just let me be wrong! I mean this is every techie’s dream gadget. It’s an alarm clock. It plays music (either through MP3s or through the internet). It works as a picture frame in conjunction with my Flickr account. It can give me the weather, track my ebay auctions, give me the new, tell me jokes, let me watch the Food Network, you name it! It can even let me receive email while in bed.

I mean, what more can you ask for?  “You can use a chumby anywhere there’s a power outlet and wi-fi coverage. Whether a chumby’s on your nightstand, bathroom counter, coffee table, in the kitchen, or out on the patio, it keeps you connected to your “Internet life” all the time!” What’s wrong with wanting to stay connected 24/7???  I don’t have a problem with that.

Really though, I think I wants me a Chumby. Think I can convince the hubby to spend nearly $200 on this, well, much needed, bedside wi-fi thing for my birthday in May? Probably not. He’ll just tell me to bring my laptop to bed (yes, he does this and yes, I know it’s just sick, sick, sick – but at least I don’t allow a TV in the bedroom). Until then, I can still covet.

Now We Have to Worry About Gmail too!

David Airey went away on vacation for a bit with his sweetie.  He made sure to notify his clients, tidy up his business obligations and even took the time to tell his blog readers that he’d be away enjoying his vacation for a bit.  While he was gone, the very day he left, in fact, someone hacked into his gmail account and stole his website/blog.  At this point, they’re still holding his site for ransom!

Who knew that someone could hack into Gmail, change filters and basically just take over someone’s business.  You better believe I’ll be getting in the habit of regularly checking my filters, redirects and accounts (I probably have 10 addresses running through my gmail).  Take a moment to read his story, it might save you down the road.

Now me,  I just need to get better at closing my gmail tab.  Of course now that I’m using a beta Firefox I don’t have my Google toolbar.  How’s a gal to know when she has email?!?!

Must.Make.This.Today.

So I’ve been wanting to try my hand at knitting for quite some time.  Sadly, I seem to get hung up on my mistakes and my hands start to ache from holding on so tightly.  So while poking around the net for a brief bit today (and catching up on my local SnB community – post-holidays I’ll officially give this knitting thing another try) and came across this post over in Moonlight Stitches.

She stumbled upon this no-knit scarf.  Hello, no knitting, just tying knots.  I so can do that. I even have some cool, chunky charcoal grey yarn I can use that would just be perfect!

So guess what I’ll be doing today besides baking banana bread*.  Yep, I’ll be making a scarf.  Yeah baby!  And then I’ll actually be able to cross it off my 101 in 1001 list. I needed to sneak a peek at that list anyway since I have a feeling I may have done a thing or two on it already.

Yet another reason to love Martha!

* I’ll post photos of my handiwork when I’m finished

Didja Hear?

Some people seem to think that Blogger sucks My understanding is that the new log in issue protocol is driving folks crazy. Who knew?

Okay, I did. Well, I don’t know if Blogger sucks as a blog platform, but that comment thing just kills me. The more I think about it, the more I realize that commenting on Blogger blogs does nothing to help up the ranking. Granted, I’m not really all that worried about my ranking – I’m not quite a year old here at the kitkat lounge – so it’s not that big of a deal. But still.

I’m thinking the blog community should be a bit more open and oh, I don’t know…like a community.  We bloggers, we’re social creatures you know and leaving our links helps to direct traffic to our blogs.

Eh, what do I know. I’m still a work in progress.

Totally unrelated…I think I really, really want to see 27 Dresses. It looks like a fun, chick flicky sort of thing.

A Christmas Quandry

So if I just spent the past 45 minutes looking for something inexpensive enough to help me to qualify for free shipping (through Sears, not Amazon*) and ending up spending $6.30 for a three pack of socks and ended up saving $6.25 on my shipping (therefore making my socks a whopping $.05)…I ask you, is it all really worth the free shipping???

Christmas Comes Early to the Kit Kat Lounge

Well, I’ve gotten a couple Open Me Now sort of Christmas gifts and thought I’d just rave about them…

Philosophy’s Home for the Holidays – a yummy smelling three pack of Philosophy’s 3-in-1 holiday soaps: Double Rich Hot Cocoa (OMG this is divine!), Hot Apple Cider (I haven’t tried this one ye, but man does it smell good!) and Cinnamon Buns. I just love their product packaging…hello, it comes with recipes right there on the bottle! Having never tried any of their 3-in-1 products before I have to say, it’s some impressive and sudsy stuff. The scent lasted throughout the day as well, though very, very subtle.

Jo Malone Perfume – I’ve been eyeing a perfume or five from Jo Malone for the past year. I fell in love with her Orange Blossom but just couldn’t bring myself to pay the price (since I work from home and don’t use perfume all that much). Then again, I wasn’t totally sure I would be happy with Orange Blossom (indecisive, I know). Well, my friend decided to get me not only the Orange Blossom, but also the Jasmine and Mint (great holiday promo). OMG, divine! Both sell great alone, but smell even more amazing when combined. Wow! Now I’m thinking I might just need to splurge and buy the Wild Fig & Cassis. And well, maybe some shower gel and body lotion too. Uh oh…I feel an addiction coming on…a very, very expensive addiction I fear.

Enstrom’s Almond Toffee – Oh.My.God! Holy Hell, this is the best toffee I think I have ever had! It was a gift from Herbie and his wife for working with them this past year. Who knew it would be so incredible considering I’m not a fan of toffee. I mean this stuff is so good, you need to lock it up! Yes, I think I’ve eaten a huge chunk of the box and it only arrived two hours ago. How embarrassing, I know. But really, it’s THAT good!
