The Energy is Shifting

I can feel it.  And no, I’m not talking about Super Tuesday (though I’m sure things are shifting there as well).  I mean things in my own life.

I’ve always been a spiritual person.  I’ve always believed (and have said it over and over) that things happen for a reason – even if we may not be able to see that reason at the time.  Looking back, I can now see how starting up my site has brought me to be the person that I am today.  And the good news, I’m really loving the energy.

I’ve been putting it out to the Universe that I’m looking for some bloggers to write on my site (in exchange for the free advertising/link back to their own site).  I’ve had great email response.  Quite a few women are interested and I already have three posts ready to go!  I met with one of my new bloggers today over coffee and much chitchat.  Just sitting down and talking with me, getting a feel for what I’m looking for and she already thinks that she has four other bloggers for me – including an advice columnist!!  How cool is all that?!?!

So yeah, the energy all around me is most definitely shifting.  And in a good way.

Now I just need to sit myself down and finish up the one post I was writing myself about online tools.  Come on girl, no more excuses!

Madder and Madder, Hotter and Hotter

We had our last Ladies Who Launch Incubator yesterday.  It was quiet nice. Amy Swift was there to talk about what LWL can do for us now that we’re out of the incubator program.  She also encouraged me to lead some “round tables” on utilizing internet-based services to increase one’s online visibility.  I’m pretty psyched about that as 1) I feel like I have something that I’m knowledgeable about and love to share with people and 2) I have a way to jumpstart providing services and earing some big bucks (lol – gotta think positively!!)

The biggest part of yesterday’s gathering was to share our vision.  You know, that thing that I kept putting off and putting off?  Well, I finished it and I loved how it read. My only complaint with it, was that since I chose to write it as an “about her” kind of article, I wasn’t able to say “and she is rolling in the dough!” It just felt out of place. But I’m going to edit my own copy so it says something like that.  Again, just for that whole if you put it out there, it will come, belief.

After we shared our visions, we gave everyone a gift.  On one hand I thought this was a bit odd.  On the other hand, I get the meaning behind it…it’s all about affirming success and giving freely so you’ll be open to receive.  I had to keep reminding myself of that when I was considering what to get everyone.  I decided to go with some feng shui goodies…a three-legged frog that brings success in business, a Chinese coin for the frog’s mouth, and a jade charm to represent happiness (as money can’t buy happiness).  I presented it in a Chinese take-out box with a fortune cookie to go along.  Too bad the dog thought it was all for him and he devoured two of the boxes to eat the damn cookies.  I guess he needed some good fortune more than my friends.

In return I received some handmade soap and body butter (her new business), a new deck of cards for readings (this was a pleasant surprise to say the least), a Julia Sweeny DVD, a cool necklace representing the keys to success and happiness, and a beautiful poem.  I wanted to share the poem since it was so fitting with some of the crap I’ve been going through lately. I just loved it…

 And of course I am afraid, because
The transformation of silence into
Language and action is an act of
Self-revelation, and that always seems
Fraught with danger.  But my daughter,
When I told her of our topic and my
Difficulty with it, said, “Tell them
About how you’re never really a whole
Person if you remain silent, because
There’s always that one little piece
Inside you that wants to be spoken out,
And if you keep ignoring it, it gets
Madder and madder and hotter and
Hotter, and if you don’t speak it out one
Day it will just up and punch you in
The mouth from the inside

Not too Bad

I managed to pull it together and actually get some shit done today. Go me!

I’ve been wanting to create a vision board for the past couple of weeks now, but I’ve never really been able to commit to it. Or maybe I just didn’t have that creative vibe going on. Well, I still did exactly get a vision board/map up and running, but I did go through a bunch of magazines and cut out a bunch of empowering words and phrases. I figure that’s enough for now. Now I just need to figure out how to glue things onto the papers (told you I wasn’t feeling all that creative).

I did realize though that right now, I think I want to focus on my sites’ blog and doing some digital coaching (which I’ve discussed here before). I figure that right now, it motivates and excites me (that’s a HUGE plus) and let’s me kind of ease back into lifestyle coaching. Who knows, maybe I’ll try my book that folks having been lecturing on being inside of me since I was around eight – yes, the reading today mentioned the book yet again! Either way, it will give me a bit of a break from all the recent drama and let me build my self-confidence back up again (how humilitating to admit that).

This of course, is part of the reason that I’ve yet to write out my business vision – or so I seem tell myself. It’s amazing how we can let fear get in our way some times. I mean, I know that deep down, I’m good at what I do. I also know that I can succeed at anything I put my mind to. But for some reason, I just don’t seem to want to commit to writing this vision. Don’t get me wrong, the perfectionist in me won’t let me not do it (it’s a homework assignment after all). So until then, I’ll see how much longer I can procrastinate here with my little ‘ol blog.

Or maybe I’ll tidy around my desk for a bit first. Really, there’s only so long that someone can be expected to function well while being over-run by cases of wine and stacks of magazines needing to be filed. That should buy me a few minutes. I’ve already [finally] gotten out of my PJs (yet another embarrassing tidbit to share), taken out the trash and dropped the crushed boxes (from behind my chair) off in the recycling bin. Oh and I need to dig out the warranty papers for our freezer and deal with all that before our house starts to stink something fierce.

Crap, I need to get some fruit for the fruit salad yet too!

I’ll get to my Vision, I promise…

ETA:  It’s now 7:07 and I am finished!! The office is cleaner, my gifties are all done, and my LWL homework is finished.  I have a Vision all written up and dammit if I don’t rock my own socks off!  😉

Is it Just Me…

Or has this week just blown on by?  I’ve been behind in my blogs all week – to the point that no matter how many I read, every time I look, my Reader says I have 100 (give or take) still to read.

One of our LWL homework assignments was to create a list of five things that we need to accomplish this week (biz related) and you know, accomplish them.  Um, I’ve only done one thing.  Though in my defense, I’ve done it to excess – I said I’d contact 5 potential blog writers and I reached out to 16!  I have meetings scheduled with two of them next week and have that second interview to work through as well.

And of course, this isn’t even counting the rest of my LWL homework I still have to do – my vision, re-do one of my elevator speeches and I still have to finish up my gifties for everyone.  I also have to make a fruit salad for tomorrow’s final meeting/party.  Whew, I’m tired already and it’s only 11:00!

Oh yeah, I also have a reading to do in a bit (assuming she can still do it since she left some wacky message about being confused with the times).  I don’t do many readings any more, so once I finish up here I’ll need to get myself in the right frame of mind.  And of course, looking around casually while I type, I don’t see my cards jumping out at me.  No wait, found them.

And in frazzled closing…our upright freezer (you know, FULL of food) died last night.  I heard a weird noise, then a weird smell.  And well, now our FULL freezer is useless and of course, we have buttloads of food to throw out, including the yummy soup I made the other night with all intentions of freezing.  I don’t get it though, we had an upright when I was a kid (back in the day when shit lasted, I’d guess) and that thing was rock solid for years and years.  I don’t think it died until I was in my mid-20’s.  And this piece of crap, not even five years!  That’s just wrong.

Okay, time for me to get busy.  Happy Friday to you all!

WooHoo!

I’ve just received word from one of the publicists that I contacted late last week.  I have my next author interview lined up!!  This one will be conducted via email instead of via audio (I think the topic lends well to that platform – and less to edit!!).  I also have one outside blogger confirmed to write 1-2 posts a month for us!

Things are really starting to move along.  This is so freakin’ cool!!!

So Much to Do

Ahhh, where to begin.  Well, I guess for starters I can say that I saw Sissy Spacek last night.  Actually, we were heading out to see her daughter at the Hotel Cafe, so it wasn’t a surprise.  Our friend would have introduced us, but we figured as cool as it might be, that it just wasn’t really worth it since she was busy.  So that’s my latest celeb sighting.  We have another show to catch tonight (Grace Potter) out at the Troubadour.  This one the hubster will be shooting.  In which case, I’ll be hanging back in some out of the way corner by the bar like I usually do.

And speaking of the hubs,  he’s working from home these next two days.  While I love having him around, and we really do co-exist pretty well without driving each other crazy, I um, well, never seem to get much done.  Today was the day I’d planned to vacuum up all the crap that got tracked in from that non-stop rain (what a mess!) Now, I can’t do that.  I also still need to rip apart the office since I’m kind of baracaded in at my desk – surrounded by cases of wine, of all things.  And of course, I need to pick up dinner fixin’s – I’m thinking of making a chicken tortilla-ish soup in the ol’ crock.

Plus I still have a slew of stuff to work on for my LWL homework and whatnot.  Oh yeah, I still need to write up this week’s class and write about the Garth show.  Yeah, I’ll get to that.  Meanwhile, I seem to be chilled and achey again.  I wonder what that’s all about.  Maybe it just means that I need more tea!  Off to make another cuppa…

Well I’m Just Little Miss Chit Chat Today

But I’m just so excited…I just emailed off about 15-20 requests to various women in small businesses!  Why, you ask?  Because I’m hoping to find some experts that would be willing to blog about their field, their services or their products in exchange for reaching a mass amount of women reading their words and visiting their sites.  Free advertising for a few words.  Works for me (and I’d sure as hell do it if someone asked – and if I had a product to sell).  I’m also hoping to get some sweepstakes swag so I can get some sweeps going on the site (in hopes of bringing in new members baby!)

See, I’m just all business today.  I also contacted one publisher regarding an email interview I’d like to conduct (she’s out of the office today though) and I still have to write up some interview questions for the author I’m interviewing on Monday.  Otherwise, I just need to sit down and finish my LWL homework for tomorrow’s class.

It has been a busy and yet productive Friday if I do say so myself (too bad I never did get to the bookkeeping stuff – oh well, there’s always next week).

Yikes, the hubs just IM’d saying that he wants to go to a show tonight at the Mint. Must get busy!!!

Messages From the Great Beyond

 I was catching up on my blogs (and boy howdy do I read a lot of blogs lately – but I’m learning a LOT from it) and came across not one, but two interesting, just-what-I-needed sort of messages.  Leave it to Seth Godin – this guy really is pretty amazing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First a couple days ago I came across this peach of an idea about the shortage of digital coaches.  I really think it could be something I could do and do well.  Hell, I’m always telling someone about SEOs and how useful blogging can be to build a clientele, the best email and other online resources that are available and blah, blah.  And it would be a great match for desire to help women starting out in business and whatnot.  Definitely something to consider…
Here are three things that are true:
1. Digital technology, especially computers and cell phones, can dramatically increase productivity.
2. More and more users of digital technology are small firms or individuals.
3. The vast majority of users of digital technology are totally lame in getting the most out of the investment of their time and money.
Here’s what I haven’t found: people who charge $100 an hour to hear what you do and how you do it and then show you how to do it better. People who organize data and put it in the right place. People who overhaul the way small groups use technology so they can use it dramatically better. More examples: Teach people to back up. Show them how to check their email on the road. Help them understand how to use online networking when it’s appropriate (and warn them when it’s not). Show a restaurant how to use OpenTable to keep the place full, or to use a blog (with an RSS feed) to easily communicate with loyal customers. Teach a company to keep tabs on itself with Technorati.
This is a growth area. The tools are finally in place to market yourself, and even better, the productivity increases you can produce for $500 or $1,000 are not just valuable, they’re actually priceless.
Then yesterday he had this gem of a message for me regarding bad judgement
Try this on: “If I believed what you believe, I’d probably be acting exactly the same way you are right now.” (Better thought than said, probably).
You know what, that’s almost certainly true… if I believed what you said when you wrote that angry blog post*, I probably would have written the same thing.
Once we realize that it’s not a matter of judgment, but a matter of belief, everything changes.
* or whatever random rant can be inserted here
Comments Schmomments
I always meant to ask this question, you know, back when I had a real blog with real subscriptions and real readers and real comments (it seems so far away now), but I figure I’ll just say fuck it and ask it now because dammit, I just want to know already.  So I ask you, when people leave comments on your blog how do you respond?
First and foremost, I’m pretty bad at responding period.  I eventually get around to it, but it’s usually a couple of days later – though I’m  working on being more timely.  But I wonder, since I never go back to see if anyone has responded to my comments, is responding in the comments directly the best plan?  I know that some folks tend to respond to comments via email.  I think this is kind of cool, but I’m just not sure it’s the best option for me since I tend to clean our my email folders pretty regularly (but I did do it that way when a whole batch of wonderful women commented on my consideration to Incubate with LWL).
Back when I had my (here it comes again) real blog, I used a plug-in so that people had the option to be alerted when comments were left after their comment.  This seemed to work for me as it was up to the reader/commenter to decide whether they wanted be part of a dialog or not so as long as I commented to their comments, I did my part.  Though to be honest, it didn’t seem to necessarily change the frequency of comments come to think of it.
So I ask you, o’few readers, how do you handle your comments and dialog?
LWL: Week 2 Homework
Okay, better late then never, right?
Last week’s ongoing homework assignment you might recall was to take notice of forward movement (still more amazing things happening with this), taking time to do nice things for ourselves (this is actually quite easy for me, but surprisingly, some gals in my group had challenges with this), and lastly, to keep cleaning up that junk to allow for more to flow into our life (this I’m still working on).  The big assignment was to write Grand Visions for each other.
I had fun writing these visions for others, but I was a little afraid of how it would go reading and allowing the ones written for me.  I was mostly afraid because I wasn’t sure I presented myself all that well or clearly (since my head was in a strange place).  But really, I should have known it would all work out.  I was thrilled and motivated by the visions that were created for me.
Since receiving my visions I have taken quite a few forward moving steps…first and foremost, finding someone to run my previous business for me; I’ve got an author interview set up for next Monday for my site’s blog; finally wrote a batch of heartfelt thank you’s for my friends that have supported me through some recent stuff; contacted someone regarding their web design (I’m loving that simple, elegant look; and thanks to this week’s homework (outlined below) I’ve got a list of women to contact regarding writing for my site’s blog and products for giveaways.  Overall, not bad movement for a Wednesday!
So for this week’s assignments, we have to do the following:
  • Inform 5 people (strangers, friends, biz relations, etc) about our new launching business – I’ve told a few folk, but I really need to hunker down and throw some intention and purpose behind it.
  • Create a list of 4 needs (can be related to the launch – mine were) and 2 secret weapons to share with our group and answer each and every need for each member – I loved this exercise!  Just actually sitting down and asking for something and getting suggestions and answers instead of just trudging along as is and getting nowhere. Again, just putting it out there has already brought me some returns – I was contacted today by someone that would like to blog for me – yay!
  • Create my elevator speech – you know, that 15 or so second response to “so, what do you do?” I still have to work on mine.  I’m a little stuck though as I’m not sure if I want to focus on my site’s blog (so that can start working on it’s own) or my launch biz so I can start feeling like I’m doing some fulfilling work – well gee, when I put it that way, I guess I’ll be focusing on the launch project 😉  I love that it’s supposed to short, sweet and tot he point…1) I am ___.  2) I do ___  3) for ___ .4) I need ___.  You can’t go wrong with that model to follow.  Here’s what I’ve got “I am LABG and I work with women to help them rediscover joy in their lives.  I need women who want to make changes in their life and live joyfully.”  Okay, that was off the top of my head, it could probably be better, but it’s a start.
  • And lastly, create a description of each person in the group – this piggy-backs on last week’s shared visions a bit.  We can use adjectives, a slogan or zippy saying or whatever creative expression comes our way. I still need to work on this one as well.
I’m sure you can see how this incubator just pumps you up and motivates you each week.  It’s fun.  It’s focused.  And it gives you just the kick you need to get moving and get stuff done.  I really look forward to each session.  I wonder what happens when our four weeks are up??
