Pre-Christmas Thoughts

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged about anything worth blogging about, so I have a bunch of random, dis-connected things running through my mind.  Lucky you, you get to read about them now…

  • It’s cold.  Like in the low 50’s in Southern California kind of cold. Yeah, yeah, I know, many of you are stuck in snow storms.  But well, we’re dealing with cold rain here in LA.  Even wearing a sweater I’m sitting her freezing my butt off.
  • Which brings me to the fact that I really, really need to clean this office so I can bring in the space heater.  We have only one heating unit here in the apartment and well, much like our AC, if you’re not standing next to it, you’re basically without heat.  So we need a space heater to preheat the bedroom before going to bed and to heat the office…once I get rid of the piles of crapola lying about.
  • My head is clogged.  Still.  And yes, it’s still driving me crazy.  Must go find some sudafed.
  • I made a big mistake today and headed out by our mall to pick up a book at Borders.  I went surface streets, but man, even the freeway ramps were bumper to bumper on the way to the mall.  Word of advice people…head to the mall the hour before it closes and you’ll not only find parking spaces, but you’ll also find a lack of crowds!
  • I was packing my friend’s box of gifts last week and came across a “Baby’s 1st Christmas” ornament.  Um…can’t think of who I might have bought it for.  Luckily it doesn’t have a year attached (it’s a photo ornament) so I can probably find someone to give it to at some point.
  • I’m so happy that I no longer have to set up any of the daily contests (though they are still going on and you can enter until 1/23).  Now I just need to focus on finding products for bi-weekly giveaways.  Which of course means I once again have to send out a bunch of emails and organize all the product and correspondence.
  • I’m thinking my goal his year is to either find an intern or an assistant to help me out with the CC contests and blog.  I find it too challenging to be pulled in so many different directions…staying focused on three or more things happening all at once and trying to grow my business to the next level…nuts, I tell ya.
  • The husband is driving me nuts setting up his “gold watch” Bose surround system (gold watch = his “thank you for your 15+ years with the company, enjoy this gold watch as a token of our appreciation” gift).  We now have boxes and wires everywhere!  On top of all the other boxes we have for the contest prizes and the Christmas gifts.  The only piece of furniture without a box or wire strewn across is the couch.  A huge mess I assure you.  But, I will concede….the sounds is awesome!

And in closeing, it’s mere days before Christmas and the in-laws have yet to decide where and when we’ll be celebrating Christmas and who should bring what.  Go figure.  It’s so much less stressful since I’ve stopped worrying about it and trying to plan everything.  So much easier to just show up and bring foods that I know we like and will eat (like salad and veggies).

PS – things are looking up for Emily and the Taylor Swift contest. If you haven’t voted yet, please do.

I Fought the Dyson…

And I won!!! Oh happy day!

Look how good this baby looks now!

And look at all the crap I pulled out from it. No wonder it wasn’t picking up half the crap I spent the good money for it to pick up!
I Fought the Dyson and I WON!!

Life lesson: Just because your vacuum can pick anything up, doesn’t mean it should pick up anything!

Procrastination: Blah, Blah, Blah

Instead of working on my business stuff (first time in a while that I’ve had the chance to work on my own stuff) or wrapping packages for shipping, I’m looking at new blog themes. And of course, I can’t find something quickly and easily that I like. To say nothing of all the plugins I just uploaded that need to be activated.

Turns out I really don’t like this theme afterall. I want a full-size, fluid width format with a header I can personalize easily with my own photos. One that won’t go format-crazy when I upload photos. No luck just yet. My client got me hooked on Blix, but I’d have to do some coding to get the header to work right and well, I just don’t feel like doing that right now.

So do I keep looking or do I work? Decisions, decisions.

ETA: I give up. I’m wasting far too much time on this. Maybe later.

ETA Take II: I’ve decided to give Fluid Blix a try for a bit until I find something I like better

Scratch that…ETA Take III – had to go back to my cheesy sunset as Fluid Blix didn’t like me at.all!

Spent Sunday at Unique Los Angeles

I got the spend Sunday immersed in the glorious world of KLEAN Bath & Body at the Unique Los Angeles. It was cool as hell. Kind of a cross between a craft fair and a trade or gift show. And considering it was held in the California Mart, it felt like a giant sample sale. Cool I tell ya!

I feel in love with about 13 different necklaces, but managed to walk out of there without purchasing one. I couldn’t decide and well, let’s be honest, I really didn’t need yet another, long silver, open-linked chain. I did leave with a way cool tee for my nephew from Johnny Cupcakes (I was a sucker for the packaging more than anything else). And if I had kids, I would have spent a small fortune on the adorable, yet funky and sassy stuff they had available.

Smart gal that I am, I made sure to wander around and pick up business cards. I’ll shoot out emails after the holidays to some of the vendors to see if they’d be interested in hosting contests for ’09. This could be a darn good thing. You know…when I find the spare time and all that.

I’m Calling Today a Productive Day

You know, without the obligation of posting daily, I can sometimes go for days without blogging.  Mind you, I can’t go days without Twittering, but what can I say.

I may not be able to account for all of my time today (seems like I may have zoned out or over-focused a time or two), but boy howdy have I been productive — see, I’m so productive today, I even found an image to accompany my post about productivty.  Go me!

No really.  I woke up and started working on redesigning my client packages (it’s a work trade with a fellow-LWLer).  From there I took a moment to answer a LinkedIn blogging question.  I liked my answer enough that I added to it and turned it into a blog post.  Then I added to that and decided to turn it into an article.  Woohoo!!

I also got booked for a speaking engagement, cleaned out my LWL inbox, responded to some LWL emails, caught up with a few friends after talking business, did the laundry, had a coffee break (needed it to survive the laundromat), cleaned up my end table a bit (rediscovering a missing e-book in the process), pre-wrote some blog posts, wrote tomorrow’s blog post for CC, twittered, went to the bank, bought cat food, threw a bunch of crap into the recylcing bin (stupid holiday catalogs every other day!), paid the bills, finished next week’s CC contest stuff, started on the remainder of the contest stuff, contacted winners, send out the newsletter opt-ins to the folks that provided product up ’til now, and well, hell, some more errandy, mind-numbing other tasks.  But yeah, productive dammit!

Now I just need to 1) find folks that can provide content for the CC blog, 2) finish all the contest stuff so I can focus on other projects and 3) record at least one MP3 to get on my site.  Oh yeah, and find something to wear to next week’s holiday parties (but that’s an entirely different post).

So what about you?  Have you done any holiday shopping?  Wrapping?  Shipping?  Cleaning?  Are you decorations up yet?  Me…none of the above, but it’s on the schedule 😉

PS-I’m planning to do a “Pimp My Friends” holiday shopping suggestion post on Monday.  So if you sell soemthing and would like to be considered, please shoot me an email (info*labloggergal*com) with any discount code you might currently be running and I’ll work it in the piece.

Behind the Scenes at KLEAN

I was practicing the fine of of Thanksgiving today – you know, where you GIVE and the recipient says THANKS? Well, I thought it would be fun to take a brief (ha!) procrastinatory (yeah, I make up my own words, what of it?) break and head on over to the KLEAN Bath & Body headquarters to visit with their CEO and VIP, Jennifer. Nothing like enjoying a CBTL tea latte amongst friends.

So while I was there visiting, I just had to take a peek at all those holiday orders. Lo’ and behold, my bloggie friend Carrie of Sommer Designs (her blog) had placed and order and Jennifer was filling it. So I just had to get a photo of the behind-the-scene action. The best part, the whole licking-the-bowl experience…no licking, but got to slather on the leftover lavender lotion.

Better still, I was lucky enough to leave with some hand lotion and body polish.  What a deal – More giving and more thanks!

KLEAN HEADQUARTERS!

It’s Craaaaaazy the Giveaways We Got Going On!

Check it out, Rachael over at Caffeinated Elf was my hero! Yet again. She made my adorable ad banner here (and my business site).

So now there’s no excuse…go register for the first 26 of the 53 giveaways. And there’s still more to go, we’ve only just reached the halfway point!!!

Black Friday got nothing on us…we’re giving away an 18″ pearl necklace!

And it’s so good, you’re seeing double – one on the left and one on the right (well, until it fades down the page as I post more throughout the week)

I’m Calling Quits on NaBloPoMo

The obligation of having to write daily just isn’t working for me.  Granted, there are only 8 days left and I could quite easily finish up, but really, what do I get out of it?

Last year it was a big deal.  A test if you will, to see if I could blog daily.  I was all sorts of proud of myself when I finished.  This year, not such a big deal.  It really felt like more of an obligation.  Then again, with three blogs and a massive contest event, it really was just another obligation.

Now that I’m pretty much settled in I’d like to go back to focusing on work.  I have articles I need to write.  Seminars I need to create.  Audio files that need to be edited.  Clients I need to work with.  I’m really more excited to focus on all of that than creating some drivel just so I can say “ta da! I blogged today.”

So having said that, I join the ranks of my fellow bloggers and move on with my November and I promise you, no more sucky, obligatory, but-I-gotta posts.  Can I get a WooHoo?!?!

I’ve Managed to Spend the Entire Day in My Pajamas

Not that it’s anything to be proud of.  Then again, it’s not really anything I had much control over.  I woke up way earlier than usual this morning with a raging migraine.  Even after taking my meds, it stuck with me all day.  And of course, the meds led to prolonged napping and lounging about.  Luckily, my client had to reschedule, so outside of the dreaded, post-vacation laundry, I didn’t have anything major planned for today.

The good news 1) I don’t have to cook dinner since I have leftover baked ziti from my Bunco dinner last night and it smells so good right now, and 2) I was able to catch up on quite a bit of the DVR backlog.  Of course, a goodly amount of what we had on the DVR has recently been given the axe.  I’ve also managed to avoid the computer until just now. I will say though that Chex Mix does not make for a good breakfast or lunch.  Overall, I’d say that it wasn’t a totally wasted day.

I still have an Ireland recap to do.  Well, not much of a recap per se since I blogged and posted pictures pretty much daily.  But I would like to write up some of my thoughts and whatnot. I’ll get around to it soon.

Oh and don’t forget to enter the 50 Days of Giving contests we’re running over at ConstantChatter.  While everything might not be for you, please spread the word, as there’s something for everyone over there.

Wanna Know, Just Ask Away

I was poking around my stats today and saw a new incoming link that I hadn’t noticed before.  One of my bloggy friends (that I don’t participate with often enough), Ami of Writing: My Life, is inviting her readers to ask her questions.  I thought that sounded like fun, so following along, I’m going to invite you to play along and do the same.

I know that I have much more readers and subscribers than I folks that actually leave comments.  Well, here is your chance to delurk, say hello and ask me that burning (or not-so-burning) question.  If there’s something you’ve ever wondered about me or my antics, or maybe you need an update on something I never did get around to following up on, then have at it…ask away!

With luck and a little focus, my goal will be to answer each question in a different post.  This could be fun, dont’cha think?  Feel free to play along on your blog as well.
