Tonight We Fly Out a Weekend of Wine & Jazz

First stop, two days in Healdsburg drinking yummy wine and eating awesome food. Hopefully we’ll pop on in to Sonoma since there are a couple of vineyards there that we really like (Kunde, Valley of the Moon, etc).

We’ll be staying in Petaluma (just a short drive away) on the marina. The rooms are gorgeous and comfortable and there’s a marsh right near by with walking trails. Last time it was crazy windy, so this time I’ll be sure to bring warmer clothes – and a hat.

Herbie & Friends Backstage

From there we head back into San Francisco for Herbie’s show at the Masonic. The hubby will be shooting the show and we’ll have plenty of backstage access so this time I hope to get some great shots myself. The photo above was taken backstage after the Sonoma Jazz Festival but I wasn’t using my flash since it would have messed up the hubby’s pro shots. Sonia Kitchell will be performing with the band and I’m pretty excited abut that (she’s the blond above).

Then we drive down to Santa Barbara for the last night of Herbie’s mini-tour.  Again, the hubby will be shooting the show so I should again be able to get some fun shots.  We won’t be staying in Santa Barbara this time around though, we’ll be staying in Ventura instead – gotta save some money considering what we’ll probably be spending in wine – so who knows how much sightseeing we might get to do.

I’ll be back on Monday (and hope to post a photo or two while I’m gone).

Yet Another Cool Thing About Living in SoCal

…the celebs are everywhere.

My hubby just sent me a text message to tell me that David Anders* is at the show he’s photographing tonight. And of course, this has to be one of the shows that he didn’t get a +1 for. I could have easily spent the entire night ogling Sark (from Alias). I mean, who couldn’t, right? Hopefully, he’ll sneak a photo for me.

* edited to add a link to his IMDB page

Time to Find Some New Sorts

When I’m out of sorts, I’m just completely and totally out of sorts. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it. Now that the boys are both home and the hubby is officially On Vacation (woohoo!) we pretty much had a laid back sort of day. The boys have just been snuggling up to each other (which says a lot considering the pupster is always afraid that the kitkat will get him) all day. And it took a while, but around 5:00PM we all finally got into bed for a little snuggle. And yes, I napped for about an hour. Which of course, didn’t help in the sorts department all too much.

A little while ago, the hubby decided that he needed to do a Costco run to pick up a cooler and a case of water for the bands he’ll be working with tomorrow. Of course, coolers are summer items in Costco-land, so none were to be found. But I’m getting ahead of myself in this rambling little story…the important part of the evening…first we stopped at Baja Fresh for dinner. All was fine and good, until we get to Costco, find a parking spot and head in. At this point I realize that I left my purse (!) at Baja Fresh. So we had to double back to pick it up. Since I called to let them know that I left it, they were waiting for me and handed it to me as soon as I walked up to the counter. The guy was so sweet, he said that he actually went into the restroom looking for me.

In my out of sorts daze, I was just about ready to say “it’s okay, it’s not like I left my cell phone behind” until I realized that the purse and all it’s occupants would cost about 5-10x as much as my cell phone would cost to replace. Don’t be alarmed, a huge chunk of that is the actual Coach purse along with my extensive lipstick collection – really, I’ve got it bad. Apparently, when I’m lacking in decent sleep, I’m way to out of it to keep track of the most basic things (or so it would seem).

And of course, the rest of the cooler and water search really isn’t important in this story any longer. So long story short…he found a cooler at the local sporting goods shop and will pick up water at the nearby grocery store. Wow, that really did make for a boring, lame-ass ending. Sorry.

Well, instead we can end things with a little gratitude…I’m grateful that all the boys are home tonight so we can get some good snuggling in before heading out again this weekend (wine country…yum!). I’m grateful that my purse, and all its occupants are safe and sound. I’m SO very grateful that my hubby can love me foibles and all and just shake his head and laugh at my (seemingly) brainless antics.

Back to the Land of Enchantment

2003_0122_165008AA

Last night I went looking through all my digital photos looking for something that represented Albuquerque to me. I remember all those years of taking photos in Old Town and during Balloon Fiesta. Well, turns out all I have digitally are my going away party pictures, my moving truck pictures and a batch from the last roadtrip that my roomie and I took before I left. Notice a theme here?

This photo above is what’s left of the army post at Fort Union on the Santa Fe Trail. We headed out there because I’ve always wanted to see wheel ruts from the Calistoga wagons. So we drove the couple of hours to get there and started taking pictures of what we thought were the wheel ruts. Turns out they were wheel ruts alrighty…from a pickup truck (see below). Yeah, disappointing.

Ruts from a Pickup

On our way back to the freeway, we stopped at the museum and asked them where the damn ruts were. Turns out, they’re right along side of both the road and the freeway. Um…but they look just like every other natural arroyo (as evidenced below). Which of course makes me wonder if it’s arroyo or ruts over on the Turquoise Trail into Madrid.

Santa Fe Trail Wheel Ruts

So while I may not have many digital photos of New Mexico in my arsenal, I do hope to get a couple good shots will visiting this weekend. That is if I can find the time between the margaritas, the green chile and the sopapillas!! Yum!  New Mexico, here I come!

Happy Halloweenie!*

I brought the dog into our marriage, my husband brought the cat. Interestingly enough, our cat thinks he’s a dog**. He likes to bark at strangers (when he’s not in Scaredy Cat mode, that is), he eats his brother’s kibble, canned food and dog treats whenever he can, and he likes to play with plush dog toys.

In many other ways, he’s all cat. He goes crazy for turkey or tuna. He insists that if you’re opening a can, any can, that it’s for him. He will search out boxes and bags and will do whatever it takes to squeeze himself inside. In fact, he’s all about hiding inside or under things, but when he hears me freaking out because I can’t find him, he’ll pop out with a meow to let me know he’s here.

Sadly, I’m allergic to cats. Mind you, we don’t let him know this. I don’t get sneezy and luckily I can control it with Zrytec. But let me tell you, when I forgot to take it my entire body, head to toes will start to itch. You’ll see me attacking my hair, my neck, my boobs and my thighs they itch so much. Then I take the meds and within the hour, all is well.

The point of my post…I’m allergic to cats, but boy howdy do I love out little guy!

* I just wanted the chance to use this picture – it really has NOTHING to do with Halloween – isn’t he handsome and autumnal though?

** Mind you, the dog loves cat treats and will roll around the catnip toys forever and a day.

Tramps Like Us (and other random thoughts)

I have so much to say, but no real desire to sit down and say it.  So instead, I’ll torment you with a slew of random thoughts…

* Having to go to a laundromat is bad enough (stupid rentals in SoCal with no laundry facilities!).  But to have the damn machines rip you off is just wrong!  So very wrong.  It cost me $8 to do two (super) loads of laundry that normally only cost $4.  And of course, the owner wasn’t around *grr*

* I put the Halloween shirt on the pupster today, you know, to get him in the spirit and all that jazz…but he’s just not happy about it.  Instead, he keeps rubbing up against things to try to remove it.

* I’m one of those wives…you know, the ones that shop for their husbands.  Well, my hubby is famous for deciding that he doesn’t like something long after the return period.   I do my best to hang onto the receipts, but this doesn’t always work.  In fact, I got blackballed from Mervyn’s my first year living with him because I returned too many (of his) things without receipts.  And now, I can’t seem to find the receipt for the damn backpack he made me buy for him.  I’ll just have to keep looking, but at least it was on clearance for only $12.

* I was really, really hoping for a new camera before my trip to Albuquerque this weekend.  My little Canon Powershot A520 has been quite good to me, but lately, the lens cap thingie doesn’t always want to open.  So I mentioned it to the hubby, and I kinda had the okay to get a new one.  But then, well, the lens cap thingie started working just fine.  So I’ve decided to give up my dream of a new camera.  Maybe he’ll get me one for Christmas (though if he had his way, I’d just use his original Nikon D70 – but it’s not small enough to fit in my purse and sometimes, that’s what matters!)

* I still can’t get over how weird Sting looked at Herbie’s tribute.  I mean really, who in the world wears brown casual shoes with a black jacket and pants (no, not a suit)?  And why in the world is Chris Botti’s jacket so damn shiny???  Herbie looks good, no?

* And speaking of Sting and Chris Botti…rumor has it there might be a three way going on with wife Trudie.  Strange youtube video as support of said rumor.

* And on the topic of the Herbie/Monk thing…I just don’t get Joni Mitchell.  Am I missing something?  Or am I just too young?  She tells these stories through songs, but really, they’re not like songs at all.  When I hear her name, all I can think of is the Emma Thompson character in Love Actually.

* And speaking of Love Actually, I still have no idea where that damn movie disappeared to.  I’ve torn the house apart and it’s just not here.  I guess I’ll need to trade in some CDs so I can get a new copy.  Let’s face it, it’s a good movie.

* My medication is kicking in and I feel a thousand times better.  Believe it or not, I can actually drive over the hill and not get totally clogged up.

In closing…the Bruce show was a little disappointing.  Keep in mind, I’m not a big fan, so the older, more obscure stuff was lost on me.   It looked like the fans really loved the show – lots of singing, lots of dancing and lots of fist pumping (my shoulder still hurts from Bad Lands) – and things sounded great.  It’s just hard to get so pumped for a show where out of 2.5 hours of music, I only knew like 6 songs!  Kind of sad.  I loved the Rising tour (saw him twice) and I really enjoyed his folksy stuff from last summer, but this show just didn’t do it for me.  So much so that both M & I decided that neither of us wanted to go again tonight (we thought we’d have to fight it out between the two of us to see who got to go tonight).  The hubby was able to get rid of the ticket though, so no worries.

The Day After

Well, I had hoped to do a bit of a recap on the Monk Institute/Herbie Hancock tribute show from last night (well, beyond my um…drunken post, that is), but I just don’t feel like it.  I guess the lesson here is that drinking lots (and lots) of wine in a pretty short amount of time makes for a lazy day after.  Luckily, as the hubby likes to say, good wine doesn’t give you a hangover, only bad wine.  So no, I’m not hung over, I’m just feeling lazy.

What I will post about is how beautiful the skies have been lately.  After all the smoke and smog from the past couple weeks, it’s just the most amazingly clear blue sky.  You know, complete with the wispy, billowy kind of clouds (that I believe are classified as cirrus).  Sadly, the city itself is engulfed in smog (the view from Mulholland is just nasty).  But over here in the SFV, I’m telling you, it’s just beautiful.

Tonight I have night one of Bruuuuce.  We’ll be heading over with our friends (that we hung out with last night as well).  They were able to get us tickets, but we’re not sure where the seats are.  Tomorrow it’s just the hubby and I hanging out in general admission. Can’t say that I’m a fan of GA seats, but then again, I doubt we’d spend all that much time sitting to begin with.

That said, who knows what tomorrow’s blog will bring. But that’s half the fun, right?

Post While Intoxicated…

Just out of curiosity, do these type of posts count towards NaBloPoMo (dam that’s hoard as hell to write while inebriated).  Im just wonderin’.  For what it’s worth…the show kicked ass and the after-party was awesome.  Really, wine is quite lovely, but free wine is even better still.  And  cupcakes.  What a fun dessert.  Okay, no more drunk posting…you guys just don’t know me that well.

PS – I love it when the hubby can play DD.  Woohoo!

Those Hollywood Nights

I am so cool you just have no idea.  No really.  I mean who else would spend a good five hours hanging out in West Hollywood with their husband either waiting in the car while he runs back and forth from the office to Sam Ash, to the office to Sam Ash, to dinner at Canter’s and then back to the office?!?  To say nothing of the fact that  I seriously spent the last 1.5 – 2 hours of that going “can you hear me now?” or “test 1, 2, 3” or “la la la la” while he tried to get the phone and the mics and the soundboard to all work.  Only to have it all end with it not working correctly after all.

Do we have live the hip Hollywood lifestyle or what?  I’m going with “or what.”  The things I do for love.  Can you hear me now?

Blah (and other random shit)

For starters, I’m on some awesome meds for my sinus infection (as I thought). They’re doing a killer job so far and I actually feel so much better. Too bad I still feel like crap because, well, um…I’m sick. Yeah, leave it to me to forget that part. I’ve been feeling blah all day today and just now got up from a two hour nap. And while it’s nice to be able to wake up without half of your head totally congested, it’s still blah.

My landlord (and the house next to us) have been have been working on their homes for the past couple months. For the most part, one or the other have been making crazy loud and obnoxious noises far too early for my comfort level (they’re sharing the handyman guy so he’s either at one place or the other). We can’t really complain though since for the most part they’re following the noise variances (he screwed up last Sunday, but I think my landlord set him straight) just unfortunately, we tend to not to to bed before 1:00AM (closer to 3:00AM for the hubby), so 7:30AM comes far too early for our tastes. It sucks when you’re going on 2 weeks straight of noise right outside our bedroom window. So blah.

Tonight is the night where the hubby hangs out in Oakland for the Bruce show. As I mentioned previously, he’s a bit of a fan (me, not so much), so this is really just one of three shows he’ll be attending. He was just too cute when he sent me out to track down a backpack that would hold his MacBook so he didn’t have to check any sort of luggage or anything (no, he can’t leave his computer behind even for one note he tells me and no, my iBook won’t do). Tonight it will therefore be just me and the boys. Of course, this will mean that the pupster will be left barking at every, slight noise he hears since the hubby won’t be here. Luckily I have to wake up early-ish for book club tomorrow morning anyway so I don’t have to worry about said pupster or said racket waking me prematurely. Blah.

I will say that it was great to have my car back. After a week+ of the dreaded Civic I’m thrilled to be reunited with my baby (which, of all things is an Elantra so it’s not like we’re talking high class or high quality here, just not a dreaded Civic). And of course, driving around, it just reminded me that I need new brakes as well. Blah.

I’m supposed to do CPK for dinner tonight with my friend (one the hubby’s closest friends) while he’s away for the night. I’m thinking that maybe we might should head over to Crumbs for some much needed cupcake relief. Not that it’s anywhere near CPK mind you, but at least they’re open late.

And now, I must go find something else to do to break me out of my blahs. Man, this thing was riddled with medicine-headed typos. Oh well. Happy Friday to you all.
