A Good Hair Day

Ever notice how your hair starts acting up so you decide, “okay, I need a haircut”  and then you start having the most wonderfully magnificent hair days? Ever.  Well, I made my decision a week or so ago.  I made my appointment a couple of days ago.  So well, um, when do I get that wonderfully magnificent hair day???

Come on, the appointment is set for Thursday, it’s the least you can do to give me a week’s worth of awesome curls, right?  I mean what’s up with the bouffy, frizzy hair and the stick straight pieces at the FRONT of my face?!?!  That’s just wrong I tell ya.

I’m ready for my good hair day please.

Today is a Peppermint Mocha Kind of Day

I certainly didn’t know that it was going to be a rainy day here in Sunny SoCal when I made plans to meet a friend for lunch. Not that it held either of us back, mind you. I just made sure I drove slower going over the hill (we get rain so infrequently that the roads get quite slick during the first rains) and packed an umbrella.

Let me just say, while lunch itself was just okay, the company and conversation was just what I needed. We talked about upcoming business opportunities, friends, gift ideas and how to deal with some of the (what might seem to be) drama that goes on with my site. But yeah, a great lunch and I even got a little shopping – mind you it was mostly for me, but well, ’tis the season and all that.
On the way home, going over the hill, I decided to stop on Mulholland to take a picture of the city and the Hollywood sign. Sadly, both came out pretty crappy (as you can see below). The sign was behind so much fog that even after five minutes of waiting, I still couldn’t get enough of anything to focus on (guess that’s an arguemet for hauling out the D70). The view of the city was so foggy that you couldn’t even see the downtown buildings.

In the end, it just reminded me that today is absolutely perfect for heading on over to the Bean and treating myself to a hot anf frothy peppermint mocha (non-fat, no sugar added thankyouverymuch). Starbuck’s seems to do a tastier pep mocha, at least for the hot ones, but man, those folks at the Bean sure know how to make an iced coffee drink. But if ever there was a day just made for a hot coffee, today was that day.

But man, thanks to the rain, my car looks awesome!! Which is a good thing since it was a horrible, horrible mess from sitting outside, unwashed for so long. Glad I didn’t drop it off at the car wash this past week or I’d be bumming.

And for a little bit of gratitude…I’m so very thankful for the many folks that are in my life that I can call a friend. And for peppermint mochas, of course!

That’s Major!

Here it is the final day of NaBloPoMo and I spent the morning dreaming about Posh Spice!  I guess that’s what happens when you spend so much time watching Dancing with the Stars.  Well, at least she was a cool chick to hang around with, even if she kept teeter tottering around on her crazy spikes.

The best part of the dream, I was skinny!!  Or at least I had crazy skinny legs.  I spent the majority of my dream either checking myself out or feeling my legs.  I’m telling you, it was just crazy, I mean major!

So um…where is the NaBloPoMo after party???  I’ll bring the vodka!

What’s Up with Blogger?

Or is it just me?  I’ve noticed today that whenever I go to comment on a blogger account I can’t seem to find the “other” option.  So now I can’t link back to my own blog and well, that’s just not fair or fun :pout:

So I ask my blogger friends, did they make some design change in the commenting section?  Is it possible to change things back to the way it used to be?  Or will all of us non-Blogger folks need to create Blogger accounts an then RSS feed our real blog in and turn off comments or something?

Or am I just a twit and am somehow through user error just blind and missing the whole thing?

I’m Stumped

I have a birthday party for my friend’s first year this weekend (waves to M if she’s reading along). In lieu of gifts the parents are asking for something that represents his first year for a time capsule that they’ll open at his 18th birthday. I think this is a great idea, except for the fact that I’m stumped and totally clueless.

The hubby will be photographing the whole event, so on the one hand we’ll have photos to contribute, but I’d still like to have something giftie to include. I can be crafty and make a mean picture frame – but I can’t imagine an 18 y/o boy would want one of my frames. And if it comes down to it, I can write a wacky poem. But otherwise, really, I’m needing some help and a brilliant idea or three – Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

~*~*~*~*~

On a related note, I still have to come up with something for my best friend from high school. I didn’t get him a birthday present back in October (it happens from time to time – on his end as well) so it can be bigger than a typical Christmas gift. Years and years ago he used to collect penguins, but like anyone that has collected anything at one point, he’s over that. He’s getting married in June, but they just got engaged on his birthday and nothing is formalized (no honeymoon plans yet, not registered, etc.). I’ve done wine in the past, and have considered a food gift this year, but is that too impersonal? So again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PS – is NaBloPoMo over yet?

I Think Today is the Day…

The day where I have nothing worth blogging about. My head is all congested and foggy and well, I really don’t have all too much going on or all too much to say. I can’t even really get motivated to decorate for Christmas this year. Though I did pick up a couple of Christmas (and Kat) presents over at Sephora, but really, that’s it.

To help get me in the mood…Christmas is All Around from Love Actually (which I will repurchase shortly dammit!)

Never mind, it kept fucking up my formating on the entire rest of the page. Oh well.

I Love Meg Cabot!

No matter how you slice it, I love me some chick lit and I love me some chick flicks. And well, Meg Cabot totally rocks. I just now finished Size 14 Is Not Fat Either (yes, I read it all today!) This is the second in a three part series (Big Boned is out now). Once again, I’m glued to the bed, turning page after page, just knowing that Heather is going to get into some sort of huge mess, all the while rooting her on (is that form of root correct or is some whacked out spelling?). Just enough suspense that I just can’t bear to put the book down – so much so, I made a crockpot dinner just so I wouldn’t have to take time out to cook.

I’ll admit that I’ve never read any of The Princess Diaries, but I did see the movies and loved them! My favorite Meg Cabot books are the ones she writes entirely through text message and email. She has such a style that you’re able to read an entire book written in short hand, slang and incomplete sentences and yet not miss anything in the storyline. That to me is just genius.

She’s just wacky enough that you can’t help but want to hang out with her. Just check out her blog and her Youtube videos. I assure you, you’ll want to be her friend too.

ETA:  Had to edit out the video since it was messing up my page format (I thought I had a media plug-in, but I guess not – or it didn’t survive the WP upgrade).

Five Days Left of NaBloPoMo *whew*

And yes, I just now went through my friends over there and added a bunch of new blogs to my reader. I can’t wait! My reader says that I have 219 new posts to read.

And because half of the search terms here are usually for actual KitKats I thought I’d have my friend bring some back when she went to Japan.  While I’m not really a fan of the actual KitKat, I know a photo op when I see one – and I give the people what they want.  So here is the obligatory, wacky-flavored KitKats from Japan.  There was vanilla, kiwi, caramel and we think, hazelnut – could have been coffee since it felt very espresso-bean-y to me, but it was in Japanese so who knows.  They were definitely interesting to taste, that’s for sure.  And man, those Japanese can be crazy with their wacky flavorsTalk about obsession.

I finally got around to getting the Herbie pictures off my camera.  Sadly, since I wasn’t using flash, they all suck – but at least shrunk down to this itty bitty size you don’t notice exactly how blurry it is (or so I tell myself).  This was during the encore at the Tucson show since I only got to shoot a couple photos during sound check in SF (and that batch is even worse than this batch).  If only I could post some of the backstage or personal photos, but I don’t think his management would be too keen on that (especially considering I don’t have any sort of copyright or protections on my photos).  I’ve got one of love of Herbie an Carlos Santana and another with Herbie and my hubby.  Oh well.

Good Lord I’m Tired!

We just came back from a two-hour long walk (give or take!)  Granted, part of that walk included visiting the snack bar at the Autry Museum so the hubby could have some lunch, but still.  It was quite pleasant and just the right temperature for a long walk (my jacket could have been the slightest bit lighter weight — I think I’m going to ask for a sleeveless vest for Christmas for times like this).

I have to say though, as lovely as Griffith Park is – and trust me, it is a lovely park – it’s not the easiest thing to get to from our house.  While they have plenty of bike paths at the side of the road, they’re actually frequently by many bike riders and don’t take kindly to little pupsters in their lanes.  They also have horse trails which are usually quite lovely to walk along, especially with the pupster, but again, not the easiest to get to.  Any way you cut it, you either have to walk a half mile or out of the way to get on the trails, or you have to cross over the freeway, including both the on- and off-ramps,  with no real sidewalk to speak of.  Kind of scary (and the reason why we never ride our bikes through Griffith Park).  If only there was just a slightly easier, less life-risking way to enter the park out our way.

By the time we started heading home it was about 45 minutes to an hour away from sunset.  We were tempted to stay out by the zoo a bit later so we could walk the Light Festival, but we were in dark clothes and I’d like the safety light for the pupster at home.  Plus, to be honest, I just wasn’t up  for another hour of waiting or walking.  We’ve got a month, we’ll do it another evening.

 ~*~*~*~*~

The hubby goes back to work tomorrow. On one hand I’m kinda sad as I’ve really enjoyed having him around all day and night. On the other hand, the house is a mess. When he’s home, he has a habit of just putting stuff wherever he is. So there are piles of crap everywhere. I actually look forward to cleaning up so I can get the Christmas decorations up.  To say nothing of this office – it’s beginning to look like it belongs to one of those little old ladies that horde things, complete with paths to our two desks…scary!  Mind you, half the boxes are six-packs of wine, but whatever (I think everyone should just get wine for Christmas this year).

  ~*~*~*~*~

So it looks like my dream house has sold *big sigh* Of course, I’m telling myself that this just means that the Universe has something much more suitable in mind for us.  And of course, my husband’s dream home is still on the market with a HUGE price reduction, but still out of our price range – though I did immediately volunteer to get a full-time job so that we could afford this house, but the hubby just shook his head and laughed (I was serious too!)

  ~*~*~*~*~

And as just a couple of follow ups…we did manage to get to the post office and process our passport applications (which prompted our friend to remind us that Herbie will more than likely be doing the (Caribbean) Playboy Jazz Cruise in early ’09; I not only finished my book club book early, but I’m half way through a Meg Cabot.  I’m a tad nervous, but I will be working on making some changes in the blog either today or tomorrow.  So if for some reason it should disappear, don’t worry, I’ll somehow (get the hubby to) fix it.
