It’s a New Year, It’s a New Day: ’bout Time I Post Something Already

New Day, New Year, New Beginings: Let's Have a...

Well happy two days after new year to all of you!  I hope your NYE was all that you’d hoped it would be.  We were pretty mellow and enjoyed a fine prime rib dinner with a friend and then drove around the Rose Bowl Parade route to laugh at those crazies that camp out (while avoiding getting hit by flying marshmellows and tortillas a’la shaving cream.  We were back home in time for some lovely snacks and some champagne before it officially became ’09.  Oh and we were lucky enough to catch some of the floats as they were arriving to settle in for the night (they’re in my Facebook photo album as they were blackberry images).

I’ll admit it, I haven’t been around all too much lately.  I’ve been taking care of some year end business and well, just been enjoying the holiday season without feeling the need to post much.  I’ve been all over Twitter and Facebook though if you don’t yet follow me there. Oh and speaking of Facebook, I did it, I finally found and contacted someone out of my past…someone from elementary school in fact.  It was kind of fun – especially checking out her photo albums.  I just might have to add a few other former classmates.  The odd thing, while I was poking around my old schools’ (yes, I went to two high schools) FB rosters, I realized that while I recognized so many names, I couldn’t necessarily remember a face, a personality or well, the person attached to the name.  Guess I don’t remember all too much about my childhood after all.

I’m wondering, does anyone else take a moment to look back over the past year before it officially ends?  I spent some time last week looking over my business accomplishments.  While I might not have made oodles of bank last year, I still think that I’ve accomplished quite a bit.  I also took a moment to send out a couple personal notes to people that I’ve met throughout the year that have helped me with my business (crap, I just now realized that I forgot one important person…BRB…okay, that’s done *whew*).  I think my favorite year-end task was writing a quick letter to my long distance friends (that for some reason or another I rarely talk to throughout the year) and doing a “what a year it’s been” update.  Lots of fun to linger over the memories and photos – especially since I was able to visit with so many of my long distance friends in ’08.  It’s been a good year with so much to be grateful for..gotta love that!

So now it’s time to look forward and focus on the amazing 2009!  Which of course starts with tasks…*sigh*.  Oh well, I’ll willingly clean up the apartment and especially my office knowing that doing so creates a shift in energy to bring forth new and amazing things.  Can’t say I’m so willing to embrace moving the Christmas boxes back out to the garage (though it will be quite nice to see them GONE!) or to do the piles of laundry that seem to have developed over the days (how does that happen??)  But I think my favorite task to do this week (what’s left of this week) is to sit down and set some intentions for how I want 2009 to play out and set some goals to go along with those intentions.  I’m honestly so excited for the many wonderful things that are going to come along this year.

So what about you, what are some of your year-end and new year rituals? Do you both to create resolutions or do you set up goals and intentions or something else?  Do you clean, organize, store away?  Tell me!!

Wishing You An Amazing 2009!

As 2008 quickly turns to 2009, I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you (those I’ve had the pleasure to get to know and those who’ve yet to say ‘hello’) for following along on my personal journey…the highs, the lows and the what the hells.

I wish for you an amazing 2009. May it bring you much love, much joy, much prosperity and many, many successes!

In love, friendship and blogging,
Kat, your LA Blogger Gal

Happy Holidays – Let’s Pimp My Friends

I don’t know about you, but I’m just so not really feeling the season this year.  Maybe because I’ve been crazy busy since before October.  Or maybe it’s because it’s a slightly shorter season this year.  I don’t know. But I do know that folks still need to shop and buy gifts for friends and family.  So in light of that, I’m here to pimp out my friends.  Here are some cool things you might want to check out…

  • KLEAN Bath & Body – You all know that I love, love, love KLEAN bath and body products.  They have the yummiest scents and it’s just good stuff all around.  I think my favorite product, something I just recently got the chance to try, has to be the body polish. I used to live on the body scrubs, but then I realized that the oily residue in the shower drove me nuts.  With the body polish, this is not an issue.  Plus it’s great for shaving.  If you’re looking for your new favorite scent, I enjoy the Pommegranite-Fig, Yuzu, Satsuma Glow, and Brown Sugar.  I’m personally not a fan of foody or dessert scents, but folks rave about her scents.  Check it out, you won’t be sad. an
  • Sommer Designs – Carrie has some awesome, handmade aprons and bags. If I didn’t already have an apron, I’d SO be sporting a gorgeous Sommer Designs apron.  They’re that sassy and retro.  It’s the perfect gift for that Martha-Wannabe, entertainer friend.  Beautiful, I’m telling you and her sense of style and color combinations will wish she could come over and decorate your house.
  • KangarooBoo – Jennic has some fun, fun toys and products for the young ones.  I love her stuff so much that when we first started taking advertising on ConstantChatter, we offered up free ad space.  And to make it even more enticing for you, they’ve got a great sale going on right now where you can both save 10% and get a free Mini Puppy Key Chain by Plan Toys (while supplies last using colde “CCH10” from now until December 31, 2008.  And if you get the chance, check out her blog to learn a bit of her incredibly fascinating story.  You’ll be inspired.
  • Caffeinated Elf – I’ve raved about Rachael as Caffeinated Elf before.  She’s helped me with my business site and she created our ConstantChatter contest ad.  She’s got a fun offer for you, especially if you really don’t want or need any more things this year.  She’s offering a special on a new banner/header design for your blog.  Normally, she charges $125, but right now she’s offering the holiday price of $100.  She’s also offering a 2-fer special (one for you and one for a friend, or both for you)  you can get TWO headers for $150 together Her holiday discount is good through January 1st, 2009 using the code: HOLIDAY.
  • See Rhi Knit – Who doesn’t love handmade gifts?! And check out those clutches…adorable!
  • Katie James – One of my all time favorite gifts to give new moms are pretty burp clothes. You know what, Katie James has them.  She also has some adorable travel jewelry bags and dog treat bags.
  • Sorting With Style – I don’t know about you, but I love, love, love office supplies.  And the prettier, the better; folders, fun staplers, scissors, clips, all sorts of organizing tools…I love it all.  I only wish it would help me to be a bit more organized – LOL.  Keep is snazzy and keep it fun!

Hopefully this list will open your eyes to some new gift ideas this season.  And just think, you’ll be supporting someone you know (or at least someone that I know) instead of the local big box store buying stuff from China.  Either way, happy shopping!!

Behind the Scenes at KLEAN

I was practicing the fine of of Thanksgiving today – you know, where you GIVE and the recipient says THANKS? Well, I thought it would be fun to take a brief (ha!) procrastinatory (yeah, I make up my own words, what of it?) break and head on over to the KLEAN Bath & Body headquarters to visit with their CEO and VIP, Jennifer. Nothing like enjoying a CBTL tea latte amongst friends.

So while I was there visiting, I just had to take a peek at all those holiday orders. Lo’ and behold, my bloggie friend Carrie of Sommer Designs (her blog) had placed and order and Jennifer was filling it. So I just had to get a photo of the behind-the-scene action. The best part, the whole licking-the-bowl experience…no licking, but got to slather on the leftover lavender lotion.

Better still, I was lucky enough to leave with some hand lotion and body polish.  What a deal – More giving and more thanks!

Wanna Know, Just Ask Away

I was poking around my stats today and saw a new incoming link that I hadn’t noticed before.  One of my bloggy friends (that I don’t participate with often enough), Ami of Writing: My Life, is inviting her readers to ask her questions.  I thought that sounded like fun, so following along, I’m going to invite you to play along and do the same.

I know that I have much more readers and subscribers than I folks that actually leave comments.  Well, here is your chance to delurk, say hello and ask me that burning (or not-so-burning) question.  If there’s something you’ve ever wondered about me or my antics, or maybe you need an update on something I never did get around to following up on, then have at it…ask away!

With luck and a little focus, my goal will be to answer each question in a different post.  This could be fun, dont’cha think?  Feel free to play along on your blog as well.

Catching Up with Old Friends

Just over 20 years ago I went to college right after high school when I was still back in Jersey.  I only went for two years because my family moved to GA and I lost in-state residency.  During those two years, I met one of the coolest people, my roommate, Fran.

After she got married 15 years ago we pretty much lost touch.  For a year or so, we tried to keep in touch, but eventually, due to changing emails (back in my Prodigy and AOL days) the ineveitalbe happened.   Needless to say, I’ve spent the past 10 or so years trying to track her down to no avail.

A week or so ago I got lucky.  Real lucky.  On a total fluke, I checked my old Hotmail account (typically spam-riddled).  On yet another fluke, I saw a message from Classmates.com and decided to read it.  Turns out, my old college roommate managed to find me.  A little further internet poking around and I found her Facebook page (she only just signed about a week before).

Catching up has been great.  I’ve been too crazy busy to call her (plus the east/west time difference and her work schedule), but we’ve been catching up through email.  I think my favorite part of the catching up process is the questions that bounce back and forth between us.  Well, that and the fact that even her mom was thrilled to hear from me and sent me an email as well.

Guess I won’t be bashing classmates.com any more.  I used to laugh at everyone that would rave on and on about how much they love catching up with old high school and college friends through Facebook.  I guess I get it now. And I’ll admit it, it is pretty darn cool.

Have you caught up with anyone from your past through either one of those reunion/classmate sites or even Facebook?

Why Isn’t Sushi Bite-Sized?

No really?  I don’t get it.  In all honesty, I’m not a native Californian gal and never even had sushi until about 6 or so years ago.  Even then it was only California rolls (I love those things!).  I slowly progressed to spicy tuna rolls. Yes, still rolls.

To be totally and completely honest, I just can’t get into the whole chunks of raw fish on a wad of rice.  It’s not that I’m repulsed by the raw fish (I love raw and seared tuna), but well, it’s just too big.  There’s just now way that I can take a bite out of the fish to make it more manageable and we all know that there’s just no knives when it comes to sushi.

Last night I met up with a LWL gal friend and she was craving, what else, you guessed it, sushi.  I told her that I was fine as long as she knew that I only ate rolls.  All was good (though my CA roll was pretty lame) and as expected, the conversation was great.  But all in all, it still makes me wonder…why isn’t sushi bite-sized?

How I Spent My Labor Day Weekend

Did I hang out at the beach?  No, but I did go to the Pier at Huntington Beach for dinner with an old friend one night.  We didn’t quite make it to the beach, though I could see the waves break through the windows and got to smell the bonfires as we drove down PCH.

Did I focus on work like some focused folks I know?  No.  In fact, I’ve been trying to log into my shopping cart system all damn weekend so I could get something set up, but for the life of me, I can’t log in.  And of course they’re not open today.

Did I clean house or at least get some clothes together to donate as part of my 29 Gifts?  No, but I have been pretty consistent in giving this weekend.  Even if I have’t been consistent in compiling my too big clothes and older kitchen wares to give away.

What I did do was shop.  Both online and in person.  If I wasn’t at a store, then I was online.  I was hoping to find stuff for Ireland, but nothing long-sleeved or winter wearable are in the stores just yet. I’m thinking the winter stuff will be in the stores shortly.  Luckily since I lived in NM, I honestly don’t really need anything but waterproof shoes and a waterproof coat (the sweaters are still boxed away).  The hub, well he’s another story; along with needing shoes and a coat, he also needs shirts and sweaters and probably a decent pair of gloves come to think of it (native Los Angelino that he is).

And when I wasn’t out and about shopping, I was listening to the news.  Except for forays to the Weather Channel for Gustav updates during commercial breaks, I don’t think our TV has been off CNN since the DNC last week.  And while I was listening to the news, if i wasn’t shopping, I was poking around trying to find a B&B in Galway city centre (or at least a walkable distance from the Centre so we won’t need to deal with parking our car while shopping and partaking of the pub life).  Anyone have a suggestion there?

I can’t say it’s been the most exciting weekend, but hey, it’s been relaxing for the most part.  And I’ve definately enjoyed the time spent with friends.

So how was your Labor Day weekend?  Anything exciting?

One of My Favorite Things About the Fall…

Spa Week baby!  It’s the coolest thing, you can any treatment from botox to a massage to a facial or body scrub all for $50!!!  It’s a great way to check out a spa to decide if it’s one you might want to go back to later. There seems to be less spas participating this fall, compared to last spring, but there’s still a good amount in both LA and the OC.

If you’re in the LA area, I can’t recommend Skin Haven enough.  I had the herbology scrub there last Spa Week and it was divine!  Tell them I sent ya.

All I need now is a pumpkin spice latte and I’ll be a happy gal.  Well, that and maybe some cooler weather.

Sommer Designs

And now, completely unrelated to the fall (kinda – “end of summer” means fall, right?)…a good friend and fellow LWLer, Sommer Designs is celebrating the end of summer by giving away this bee-you-tee-ful apron.  Just go here and leave her a comment letting her know just how talented she is (kidding, though she is talented).  Good luck!
