Migraines Suck; Our Two Furry Boys Don’t

They especially suck when they take a week to actually develop into a migraine.  Until then, they’re just dull and annoying ache for days and let me tell you, that sucks too.  Last night my week of dull aches finally turned into a migraine.  Believe it or not, I was happy to finally have it turn into a full on migraine.  Once it turns, the days of dull aches and twinges go away.

I tried a new migraine medicine, Maxalt-mlt.  It’s one of those that dissolve on your tongue.  Gross.  I will say that it had a nice quick reaction time and I felt things subsiding pretty quickly.  But I realized it was only good if I was still.  Once I started to move (to head to bed), the painful throbbing started up.  So in the end, I still needed a Vicodin to cut the throbbing pain (and I hate that – thankfully these only happen once a month or so).

I did notice that the throbbing wasn’t as bad as it can get when I take the Imitrex.  I also noticed that it didn’t knock me out like the Imitrex usually does.  So all in all, this might be able to replace my Imitrex (which I try to avoid at all costs due to the onset of the throbbing and the fact that it knocks me out within an hour).  I think I’ll ask my doc for another sample to give it a try a little bit longer.

All of this makes me wonder…when we head to Ireland, do I have to have all my meds in their original bottles?  Or can I keep them in a pill case with just a printed out of my prescriptions?  The only one I’m really worried about is the hubs Ambien (for flying and sleeping) and my Vicodin (I really only need a couple as a “just in case”).  Anyone traveling internationally and have any idea on this?

You know what else sucks?  Hairballs. I think my cat has had a hairball attack every day for the past three days.  And of course they’re big and messy and gross.  Today’s lovely gift was left at the corner of the bed.  Half on the bed and half off.  Lovely. Now I need to wash the blanket.  Guess I can take it in tomorrow after the dreaded dentist along with my batch of sweaters.

You know what doesn’t suck?  When I am dealing with a sucky migraine, the boys know and will both snuggle tight with me in bed (regardless of the time of day).  All that love and healing energy is just divine!

Talk About a Stupid Mistake

So yesterday I went to the grocery store to pick up some veggies for my caccitori and to pick up some meat for dinners this week.  When I got home, I immediately went to town chopping the veggies since the chicken had been in the crockpot for a bit already.

Turns out I totally forgot about putting the meat away until I went looking in the bag for the tomato.  So basically, my raw chicken and my pork had been without refrigeration for about 4 hours.  It was still quite cold, but I’m assuming I need to throw it away, right?  This is right up there with the don’t thaw the meat on the counter, right? (which, I should mention…I do fairly regularly).

So toss it?

Do You Work From Home?

What’s your secret?  How do you stay focused?

I’ve been working from home, on and off now for the past 8 or so years.  Basically, since I left teaching and started getting clients while in grad school.  Back then, my working from home consisted of a lot of writing.  Come to think of it, it still does. Only difference, I went from writing client reports and treatment plans to writing articles and blog posts.  Not all that different when you get down to it.

Some days are more challenging than others.  Today for instance…here it is, nearly 1:00pm and all I’ve managed to do is make my todo list, write two blog posts (including this one) and mail out some of the winning CBTL gift cards.  All I can seem to focus on is the fact that the apartment needs a serious vacuuming and I realy, really, really want to get that damn couch taken care of.  But while it’s cooler today, it’s still too hot for me to vacuum.  I’m just not really up for a sweat-fest right now.  Especially when I need to finish my newsletter for tomorrow (and the corresponding biz blog posts for the week) and get my biz autoresponders up and running.

So I ask those of you that work from home, how do you do it? How do you stay focuses and on task when you can see 1001 other things that you could be attending to?

If you haven’t yet decided to participate in the 29 Days of Giving project, take a looksee at what’s up…they’re giving away a Flip video camera to the person that recruits the 2000th person.  Me, I already have a Flip, s I’m more than willing to pass it along if I should win.

We now have EXACTLY 35.5 HOURS to reach our 2,000 Giver Goal!

If we meet the goal of 2,000 Givers by 11:59 pm pacific time on 9/29 and the 2,000th member comes from an outside source or one we can’t identify, the camera will be raffled off to our existing members in our forum on October 1, 2008.

So everybody get to work and email out LOTS of invites to friends. Remember, old fashioned text emails from your personal email account work best, so don’t try to be fancy.

Make sure you tell your friends in your email invitation to put your name in the “How did you hear about 29 Gifts?” portion of their profile!!!

Member number 2,000 will also get a special gift, but I don’t want to give that away until we meet the goal.

Silly Winter-Related Question…

Does your man wear any winter weather paraphernalia, you know, hats, scarves, gloves, etc.?  Now that winter stuff is finally in the stores, I’m trying to finish up our Ireland shopping.  For the hubs though, I’m kind of stuck on his accessories, so to speak.

Here in Southern California, it doesn’t get all that crazy cold.  And when it is cold, well, you’re not in it all that long.  But in Ireland, I’m assuming we’ll be outside quite a bit more and that it will be quite a bit colder, and more wet, than here.  So the hubs needs some supplies.

Right now he has a cheap ass pair of Old Navy gloves that I bought for myself (and are way to big) to wear when we go walking at night.  But that’s it.  No scarf, no hat, nothing.  So what do fashionable, yet normal, men wear in the cold?  Anything I can get here at Kohl’s or any other basic store?

Mind you, this is SO not a problem for me.  One, I love scarves and have plenty to choose from.  Two, I already bought two hats and still have two other hats here already (I get cold easily, what can I say).  I have earmuffs too, but that’s just for when we walk during the winter.

Man, I miss winter weather…

Catching Up on the Early Fall TV

I finally got around to catching up on some of the new fall TV shows. I thought I might take a moment to share some of my thoughts.

Gossip Girl – I was really, really, really looking forward to Gossip Girl’s return.  The couple of episodes haven’t really wowed me me much though.  Maybe things will heat back up again once everyone returns to school.  Here’s hoping anyway.

Privilege – I’m liking this so far.  I think it’s a cute premise and slightly more believable than Gossip Girl.  Though really, who in the world gets to drink alcohol at such a young age?  Is that even possible?  It took a while to realize who the main character and tutor is – if she were still a blonde I probably would have figured it out sooner.

Grey’s Anaotmy – What a lame return.  That episode just dragged on and on.  It’s a shame too, as I was really looking forward to the return.  I heard there’s going to be some good character development coming up, so I hate the season improves.

Heroes – All I can say is WOW!  Did you see that season premier?  Even if they’d stopped after the first hour, it would still have been totally on the edge of your seat excitement.  I can’t wait to see where it’s all going to go.  Who is a hero and who is a villian?  And what about people  who previously didn’t have powers getting them?  And Linderman, what happened to him again?  Did Nicki kill him?  What about Claire, is she different now that Sylar got a hold of her?

Fringe – I’m quite liking this show.  I should admit though, I’m was a huge Alias fan.  And while I can see the comparisions, I keep waiting for it to be as good as Alias was when it was great.  I don’t mean that Fringe isn’t good, just that it’s not Alias, so I need to stop watching it looking for signs of Alias.  I’m loving Joshua Jackson, but that lead gal, I’m not quite so fond of.  She doesn’t seem to have that zing that JJ Abrams other lead women seem to have.  I’ll keep watching though, as I do believe I’m hooked and need to learn more about The Pattern.

The Mentalist – I just watched this about an hour ago.  I’m not quite sure if I like it.  It was okay, but if I’m watching someone pretend to be a psychic while being a detective…well, I’ll just watch Psych (and I do).  That Simon Baker though, he is a cutie with an awesome smile.  So I have a feeling I might just be watching to keep an eye on him.

Lipstick Jungle – I was actually surprised to see it return.  I don’t think it’s bad, but it’s not exactly much see TV either.  I find it interesting that they killed off whats-her-name’s husband.  That was one thing in the old season that make her character a little less believeable or relatable for me.  Well at least now she’ll get to play with Kirby out in pubic.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the shows coming back over the next couple of weeks.  I’m definitely ready for the ABC Wednesday night line up, especially Dirty, Sexy, Money. When does Lost return?

So what have you been watching these past two weeks and what are you still looking forward to?

How Will You Celebrate National Coffee Day? How About Free Coffee Bean??

Did you know that Monday, September 29th is National Coffee Day?  I don’t know about you, but I don’t need much of a push to celebrate this holiday.  Well thanks to blogging about National Coffee Day last year*, I have some treats to help you celebrate…

Five lucky winners will receive $5 gift cards to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.  The only catch, you have to be somewhere where you can actually spend your CBTL gift card…like in Southern California.  If you fit that requirement, than just leave me a comment letting me know your favorite thing about coffee.

One for me, Five for you!

Free Coffee Bean for National Coffee Day

Using random.org, I’ll pick the winners Sunday night and drop those cards in the mail on Monday…National Coffee Day!

Enjoy!

Have You Read a Good Book Lately?

For this Sunday’s book club we’re all supposed to bring a couple of suggestions for next year’s list.  While I’ve read some good books this year, most have either been way fun and chick lit-y or they’ve been business books.

So I ask you, have you read any good books lately?  Care to recommend something?
